Brady "XLLL" Hoke (Head Coach San Diego State)

All I know is, at least his QBs are consistant at one thing...

Two of those are face up. One is face down. Not consistent at all--makes a big difference to people like Jerry Sandusky, for instance.

But wasn't RR also about the gimmicky nature of his offense and defense? At least gimmicky from the perception of the BIG10 at that point.
I mean his offense relied on undersized players with speed to the edges, and his defense was a 335. He needed entirely different kinds of players... it reminded of NFL teams trying to transition between 43 and 34. Just as he was getting some of those pieces, they dumped him -- and further exacerbated the situation -- by flipping back.
I always thought the gimmick aspect is where so much of the hate came from too. We could just as easily say "It's not BIG10 football" and he failed to realize the environment and opponents he faced. It's one thing for Tiller or Walker to get unconventional and find limited success doing it, but I don't think any of the powerhouse schools in this conference would've appreciated a 335 defense. It was a huge oversight for that University in their hiring process. It's not like it was a secret that RichRod runs the 335. They hired him with full knowledge of that fact, and then threw him under the bus just as he was making progress because of their own mistake.
Not that I think a 335 was ever going to succeed up there, but any powerhouse program looking at RR should've demanded that he hire a more traditional DC to handle that side of the ball. Especially once Casteel(sp?) decided to not join him -- IIRC both of the DCs he hired were 43 guys attempting to run a gimmick 335 anyway... why?

Funchess. After that, not really, unless you consider Green running over Appy State and Fredo U. DeVeon Smith has been solid in spurts, but for some reason they seem hesitant to give him the ball consistently.

Bottom line, his recruits have largely underperformed terribly given their rankings coming in, particularly on the OL and skill positions. He has recruited some decent defensive players. But, their secondary continues to underperform, and their LBs are not that good either, IMO...other than Jake Ryan, who has regressed since moving to the middle.

They're all *ichigan *en now... I'm sure one of them will be a fine coach one day.

Besides that, Undefeated.

BTW, they are making much of the taunting penalty, but...if I remember my elementary school math correctly, 31 is more than 27, but they're both more than 24. (My suggestion: Don't want a flag? Don't screw around.)
