Brady "XLLL" Hoke (Head Coach San Diego State)

At least Rich Rod's teams could score.

Hey...I score. One way or another (allegedly).

On the one hand, Hoke is such a pumpkinhead that I hope he gets Kiffened at halftime of The Game.

On the other hand, he has Michigan firmly on the path to irrelevancy, while a real coach might be able to wake the sleeping giant.

Should he stay or should he go? It's a tough decision.

I hate to say it but I'm beginning to think THE GAME is going to be chippy at best, or a dirty one at worst. I just don't know if their players actually get what THE GAME is all about. Does Brady Hoke even have any kind of control over this team? I don't know if there is a single player on that team that Urban would call a leader based on what I've seen this year. I've joked about scUM most everyday of my life. A little louder the years the good guys win, a little quieter when they don't. scUM players don't seem to have that volume button, they're always talking shit it seems. I think Hoke could keep his job if they lose to the Buckeyes, but can he keep it if his players lose their self control and tarnish THE GAME in some way?

I have total faith in the pizza guy to bumble his way through yet another coaching search and end up with somebody equally as mediocre as their last two "brilliant hires."

There's a reason Ohio State is an elite football program riding a huge wave of momentum and tsun has been stuck in neutral for the better part of a decade. When tOSU found itself in need of a coach, they identified their target, quietly went about securing him, and announced him when the Buckeye Nation was in need of a lift. scUM has a homemade savior (Harbaugh), their equivalent of Urban Meyer, and instead of offering him the job, they say he'll have to go through the interview process. He says "eff that, I'll just go to the NFL, I like NorCal better, anyway", and they're left with a <.500 career coach. It really is that simple.

The thing that is truly different about the hiring situation is.. In our case our BoT told the AD go GTFO the way... We've got an almost as bad AD, our Board just knew what was at stake and stepped in. Had the hiring been totally left up to Gene we'd be in close to the same situation

That's assuming the position hasn't already become toxic. I have a feeling they will have a difficult time finding competent coach.

Bama pissed away what, a decade between Stallings and Saban? The Domers are still fumbling along.

Making a home run coaching hire is no given thing and even less a certainty when you have some incompetent pecker like Dave Brandon in charge.

The reality is that there is only one guy who could possibly make the "M*ch*gan Man" heavy hitters alumni/booster network happy and he died in 2006.

Harbaugh was the one and only that was going to lift UM back up to the top, no question. Not sure if he really had any interest in going back to AA, but that doesn't matter at this point. UM's approach to the whole thing was laughable at best, certainly didn't give themselves a chance to secure his employment with them. But I don't think that was ever in the cards.

OSU (and the BIG) needs UM to be a top 10 team, every year, and there is no reason that can't happen. Michigan administrators need to understand that coaching is the MOST IMPORTANT factor in college football. Period. The name of their coach and how it relates nationally and to NFL rosters is what recruits are looking for. They have fucked up twice (actually 3 times if you count letting Carr stay the course his final 3 seasons), and just can't get it right. Timing is everything with landing the right guy, but holy shit they have simply botched it as of late.

Look at Texas, Florida, and USC. Significant programs with talented rosters but very poor coaching. It's a joke. None of those 3 programs should ever fall outside the top 20 w/their resources. It's simply mis-guided coaching. Michigan is right there with them. Michigan has some serious looking in the mirror to do.

I agree we need another top ten program in the b1g. But it does not necessarily need to be tsun. We need someone to fill the vacuum left by tsun, like Stanford did when USC crumbled.
