Bracketology and Selection Sunday Discussion

Oklahoma still projected in by Lunardi right now. Even more mind boggling than Indiana. A total joke actually

3-9 in the Big 12. Their biggest OOC win is literally against Wofford. Unless you count Florida (13-11) USC (13-11) and Notre Dame (13-11) as "major wins". Their 3 Big 12 wins are against fellow bottom of the conference teams as well (Okie State twice and TCU)

I understand all conferences are not created equal; some stronger than others, unbalanced scheduling, ect.... But at some point, it comes down to winning games. There shouldn't be a line in the sand that says you have to win "x" many conference games in a season to get into the NCAA tournament, but you should be required to at least compete in your own conference. And like buckeyemania11 just posted, OU hasn't beaten anyone besides the other bottom-dwellers in their conference. And though I don't believe IU should be in the equation either, they at least have a handful of wins vs. quality opponents, but both just have so many unexplainable/undefendable losses.

Give me a 4-5 loss team from a smaller conference instead. Some of these non-major conferences play good basketball and sometimes have 2 worthy teams and they almost always only get the 1 auto-bid.

Even in a "tough" conference.

Yea Indiana beat Marquette and Sparty, cool. Do those wins really outweigh losses to Nebraska, Northwestern, Rutgers & Arkansas? They certainly shouldn't.

At least Indiana is "first 4 out" right now though by Lunardi. No clue how OU gets in over them if it came down to it. Not that I would personally put either in. I'd rather see a mid major team get a crack than some mediocre at best bottom half of a major conference team.

That all being said, things should certainly work themselves out in the next month.

You gotta think theres no way OU actually gets in the dance if they finish Big 12 play 6 games under .500

Same with Indiana if they finish 5 games under .500 in B1G play

There are always a couple "bid stealers" who get in by virtue of winning the conference tournament when they would not get in as an at-large, so teams like OU and IU basically have no chance of an at-large if they are right at the cut line now. We wont know exactly how much "shrinking of the bubble" there will be, so teams hovering near 40 in the NET like OSU need to snag another big win in order to put themselves in safely.

But...but...Indiana has wins over Marquette, Louisville and Michigan State!

Sure, they're 10-14 in the rest of their games but quadrant wins, baby!

This selection process is entirely geared toward getting as many Power 5 teams in as possible.

IU is not going to even be close to the bubble when it is Selection Sunday. The merits of their case for selection being discussed seriously just shows how much of a con the bubble discussion can be in February. TV analysts and writers make the bubble so big that it includes almost anyone because inclusion of as many teams as possible makes it seem like the regular season still has meaning for teams like IU even when it doesn't.
