BP'ers get all nerdy about weather (split from Poll thread)

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Play someone with a heartbeat away from home and play a few November games up north. Let's see how the SEC candy asses do.

And the force with which their collective vaginas clench upon the mere discussion of playing a playoff game in Columbus or Madison in early December is enough to cause a moderate black hole to appear within our atmosphere.

Works both ways.

Been watching college football since the early 80's. I have never seen it work the other way.

Warm weather schools get all the advantage of heat, humidity and proximity. Never seen one come north unless it's in September.

Come play a January Bowl game in Cleveland and tell me how much of a neutral site it is.

Yep. The day they agree to possibly head North to play the first round of a playoff, and I'll abide to stop mocking them. And for fuck's sake, Columbus or Madison in early December are more likely to be 40 degrees than 4 degrees. I'd add Ann Arbor to that list, but............

CFP games are in late December

I'll take my chances and say rotate one in every couple of years.

Just for shits and giggles, let's make it up in Minny's nice new outdoor stadium.

USC and those silly bitches in Miami have gotten to claim multiple NC's playing the Bowl game on their home field.

Minny's too small, though it can be expanded to 80. I'm all for home field. If we have to play them in front of 100K screaming, tea-bagging, tree-poisoning mongoloids, I'm willing to take that chance so long as they're willing to take the chance of having to come up and play in 20 degree weather in The Shoe or Camp Randall. Want to make it neutral, then Soldier Field where their fans might actually stumble into such unfamiliar institutions as museums, concert halls, architecture tours or restaurants that aren't known for their possum dishes.

The "both ways" referred to advantage.

The fact is that most people do not want to spend their December/January Holiday flying to frozen winter garden spots. Most fans who want to spend time and money for a little vacay to watch an away or bowl game do not prefer sitting outside in some stadium where your snot freezes and the hot cheerleaders are wearing more clothes than Randy in Christmas Story - even if they can move their arms.

So ADs listen to both coaches AND alum/donors. I hate to break it to you, but not wanting to deal with winter travel and sit outside in the sleet while you watch your team has far less to do about some nefarious avoidance for football wins than the fact that many people have little desire to hang out in shitty weather. I mean, if all you have is cutting a hole in the ice and dropping a line in it, more power to you. More folks would prefer to take the bass boat out and wear a light jacket if they had a choice. And scheduling is a choice.

So you think AD's get to schedule Bowl games based on fan's vacation desires?

The point is, was and shall always be a massive climate change and home field/proximity is a major advantage. Spinning up straw men about how you think people like to spend vacations means dick.

but, but, but where do they drop their bass boats in?

Bowl games used to be rewards for a great season. If we are going to have playoffs then the "reward " component is meaningless. Top seed should host. Period.

NFL seems to find a way to fill cold weather stadiums for playoff games

Super Bowls too

Southerners know it's a huge advantage for them (see gators own post about the 120 degree turf). They have simply constructed this "who wants to fish up north?" bullshit to try and rationalize it.

Dude, please. Walleye boats. If you've never been to "Opening Walleye" in Minnesota, you have not lived. It's one of the great parties in the world up there with Pamplona, St Patty's Day in Chicago, Race Week in Antigua and other various assorted instances of global bacchanalia.

like the running of the gumps?

Buckeye fans go wherever the Bucks are strapping em on and lacing em up. I’m not sure the same can be said of any team south of the Mason-Dixon....
