I'm sorry. You've obviously mistaken me for someone who gives a shit.

So, how exactly does a "keeper league" work?
You draft a boat load of freshmen, hoping by the time they get to be juniors/seniors they're any good.

I draft a boat load of seniors every year, keeping none of them.

Seriously, the point I'm making is roster sizes being the same year to year, we'll have to have minimum requirements for number of players from each particular class.

That sounds rather complicated. Are keeper leagues typically run where each player gets to keep X number of members of his team from the previous year?

Never done a college keeper league... which is complicated by the fact that the guy will be out of the league in 4 years max.

I can see where we'd have, say, 3 roster spots for keepers.... but... supposing you don't have any underclassmen on your roster - who can you keep? No one... meaning, you get 3 extra draft picks... well.. how does that work? When do you get them? etc..

I don't know... I don't see the point in drafting a Freshman QB on the hopes he'll be good in 3 years when I can get a Junior QB who I know will be good this year.

I mean, I guess I like the idea of being to draft Terrelle Pryor and hang on to him for 4 years (err.... 3 years).... but.... I guess I also don't see the point, really. I'm just as likely to draft a new QB every year and do as well, over the long haul.

Piney and I are in a seperate keeper league. There are 16 teams, only players from the BCS schools, MWC, CUSA, and ND are available to draft. It sounds simple enough to just draft the guys you know are going to be good.....except those guys will already be taken.

In my first draft (2006), I took a kid nobody heard of at the end of the 2nd round. He won the Heisman last year. So in 2007 when people realize this Tim Tebow kid was going to be the star QB on a team that was going to score a ton of points, they still couldn't take him because he was on my team.

Piney took Juaquin Iglesias in the 9th and followed it up with Paul Fucking Smith in the 10th. They pretty much carried his ass last year.

The point is, you could certainly try to stick to proven players...but if you do that you're not going to have much to pick from come draft time. The "proven" QBs that were available in this years draft were: Todd Reesing, Cullen Harper, Zac Robinson. Then you're left with guys like Allen Everidge or Adam Weber.

So was there a maximum number of players you could keep?

Hey BN, don't forget my 1st round pick last year... I guessed that this redshirt freshman WR from Texas Tech might be a good one. Well, Michael Crabtree carried me to the Championship game and I get to keep him til he goes to the NFL.

But in that league the rosters are expanded to 19 total players. Our weekly starters are 1 QB, 2 RB, 2WR, 1K, & 1D. And there are no limitations for keepers, so in theory you can keep your whole team if they are all underclassmen or you can lose your whole team if they are all seniors (or early NFL entrees). And of note, there are no add/drops during the season.

And there are no keeper penalties in the draft. So if you only lose 5 players, you only have 5 picks in the draft (Rounds 1-5). So near the end of the draft there might only be 3-4 teams picking players.

They didn't strike me as the recruitnik kind...and preseason mags didn't do too much recruiting talks 2 years ago. I owe my knowledge of Tim Tebow to Alan, who told me he was secretly an OSU silent. He told me that for free, actually.

I call bullshit. It cost you at least $39.95.

I joined the keeper league that BN was in for the first time last month, just in time for the draft. It's really cool. Piney described it best. There's no limit to who you draft or keep...if you draft a guy and he ends up sucking, you dont have to keep him and he goes back in the draft next year.
I picked up a pretty shitty team and decided this year to just draft freshmen and sophomores and build for the future. I ended up getting Darrell Scott in the first round and he's supposed to be a stud. I'll suck this year and hopefully be good next year with all my young talent. Other guys are drafting seniors and juniors on Tulane. So it's just what your preference is. But its better because its more like recruiting and more strategy than drafting year by year. Who ever gets 1st pick this year will draft Harrell, but they'll be in trouble at QB next year. But if you draft Pryor, you'll be good for a few years. So it will be more interesting.
That being said I'm in for keeper, and BN has a great way to decided the draft order for next year. This year would probably be random.
