Howdy-

I've seen a number of threads about "hey, any suggestions for my trip to....", and thought that having one as a reference might not be a bad idea.

That way, others who might be traveling to the same locale a few years later could search through the thread to see BPer's suggestions. AND, folks looking for a place to get away to could also refer to it for ideas/suggestions.

(if this already exists somewhere... apologies, and refer to my status as "an idiot").

Why Flagstaff? I would stay in Sedona, it has some great hiking, shopping and views.

There are wineries around cottonwood and Jerome (just west of sedona), including maynard jame keenen's page cellars (tool lead singer). He has a documentary too: blood into wine.

Jerome is an interesting town on top of a hill with lots of shops etc as well.

You can also take the grad canyon railway from a small town just west of flagstaff to the canyon.

Will be in Baltimore for a conference in June. Staying at the Hilton across the street from Camden Yards. Oriels are home that weekend, so will try to catch a game.

I won't have a lot of time outside of the conference during the day, but hope to visit Ft. McHenry (200th anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner this year) and Edgar Allan Poe's house if there is enough time.

Any suggestions for restaurants or other sites downtown?

Can't go wrong with Yellowstone. Personally thought Old Faithful overrated. The Yellowstone canyon and falls are amazing, as well as the Norris Geyser Basin--feels like you are on an alien world at times.

If you can take the south entrance to the park (coming or going) would recommend it as it would give you a chance to drive through the Grand Teton National Park.

I wouldn't say that Old Faithful is overrated. Pretty cool seeing it live a couple of years ago, plus all of the other features in that one area gives you a good 2 - 3 hours of walking/hiking through some really cool natural features (if you are into that sort of thing like I am.) I also liked Mammoth Springs. That place looked like what I see as the surface of the Moon.

Apache, definitely do Grand Teton while you are there. Absolutely beautiful. I would also recommend hanging out in the town of Jackson for a bit, some really cool little shops and restaurants. Head over to Jackson Hole Resort and take the tram to the top of Rendezvous Mountain, plus there a ton of cool shops there as well.

Definitely. My restaurant recommendation would be The Helmand, a fantastic Afghani restaurant just north of downtown. One of my favorite Baltimore attractions is The American Visionary Art Museum, an eclectic museum dedicated to eccentric American folk art. It is on the other side of the harbor. Both spots are maybe a bit more than a mile walk from where you'll be staying. I would also recommend trying some of the pit beef places in Baltimore. Pit Beef BBQ is one of the things the city is known for. There's also some pretty good places to drink beer in B-more. Let me know if you want any insight on that.

The big aquarium at Inner Harbor was sweet when I was there

Well I don't know why in the world you'd want to go to Flagstaff but if you like coffee check out Macy's, I really like the coffee, food and atmosphere

Walnut Canyon is a few miles east on I-40. You can hike down and see the old Indian dwellings

Lockett Meadow isn't far, it's kind of nice. There's a few surprising good places for fine dinning if you're into that but then again, someone who still says "howdy" might be more comfortable at "The Outback" :wink:

Are they playing at Sun Life or the new Marlins park? If it is Sun Life, you are better off staying around the Ft Lauderdale area which would be closer than Miami.
