BP Vacation Thread: What To Do Where You're Going

Also, I'm not on vacation, but I'm going to advise against Baltimore in mid-July. I just about died walking over to the Edgar Allan Poe grave. This is why I always pay a few more bucks for the conference HQ hotel that connects directly to the convention center.

Unfortunately 1-day WDW tickets are the worst possible deal and virtually impossible to get on a legit discount without some sort of corporate hookup. I would definitely advise against going with those sketchy discount brokers, since they are indeed largely sketchy. That said, I'm one of those dads who says the price is worth it if you have a family who will enjoy "the most magical place on Earth."

I have family that owns vacation homes in Homosassa Springs (about an hour west of Orlando). We get the opportunity to make use of the houses between Airbnb bookings. So not only is this trip spur of the moment, but we're also doing it because the lodging is free. I'm really just looking for some budget options for a one-day drive over to the Magic Kingdom park.

What I'm saying is I'm a freeloader. 8D

Any tips to score discounted single day admission to Magic Kingdom in Orlando? Price is darn near $500 for a family of 4 (two adults, two children) for a single day.

Have checked the usual suspects online and either the discounts are minimal or the sites look sketchy as hell. Wondering if there's some sweet super-secret AMEX travel or AAA or ex-military discount somewhere I should be calling about? Maybe a DIS shareholder bonus? Anyone been since the 10% price uptick this year?

@scarletmike ?

Unfortunately as @BayBuck already posted, you're not going to find much beyond a couple dollars discount on Disney tickets, especially one day tix. I know there are some decent discounts for multi-day tickets for active military and vets, but I'm not aware of the specifics.

I looked at the veterans packages and they're all four-day stays. It winds up being the 'special' veterans deal really isn't any better than offers I've already got through the AMEX Platinum concierge service or through USAA.

My go to is always VRBO for any extended lodging needs. We've used them for probably close to a dozen trips of a week plus and have had great success every time.

For more specific recommendations:

I'd check out the lodging at Arc of the Appalachia -- it's high on my list of places to check out although we haven't made it there yet. http://arcofappalachia.org/lodging-at-highlands-nature-sanctuary/

If you're looking for Amish country rather than SE OH, my folks have always enjoyed Honey Run. https://www.innathoneyrun.com/
