BP Vacation Thread: What To Do Where You're Going

I guess it depends on what you will be doing. In Port Clinton, Lakeside, Sandusky, I would expect it would be more expensive, but more convenient to things to do. The place we stayed was out a ways, so it was about 15-20 minutes to get into PC, maybe 30-40 to Marblehead, and probably close to an hour to Sandusky, but.....werent really interested in the touristy stuff, so it was no problem.
National Shooting Matches start at Camp Perry in July. They can mess with availability/cost around Port Clinton.

If anyone comes down to Florida and vacations in the Sarasota area, I just went to the The Ringling yesterday and was surprised by how good it was. I was only able to take a quick peek into the art museum as my in-laws only went for the circus museum, but I was thoroughly impressed by what I saw (and I'm not too big into art museums anyway). The circus museum was pretty neat, although there's a clear difference between the original old circus museum and the new exhibits in the Tibbals Learning Center. Seeing the Wisconsin (John Ringling's personal train coach) was something entirely new to me, getting up close with a coach from the grand age of trains in the US, and it was really something to see. The exhibits in the Learning Center are similar in setup and display to the museums in DC, while the old museum is 90% wagons and other circus vehicles (also where the Wisconsin is), dimly lit.

So if you're into art museums and/or the circus, I would highly recommend visiting The Ringling if you're in the area.

Not a vacation, but I'll be in @AuTX Buckeye 's eponymous city for a work conference one weekend this month, with a Friday night free for some wandering around.
Any recommendations for a cool place to grab some drinks, maybe see some live music, within walking(ish) distance of the convention center?
I also need to pick a "dine-around" from the list: how is Cooper's Old Time Pit BBQ?

I'm sorry. Pack several undershirts - it should be around mid 80s around midnight.

Moonshine has an outstanding Brunch but get their early on Sunday.

how far is "walking(ish)" distance to you?

and can you put up with Hipsters and liberal hippies? if so pick any bar on Rainey St and head there. I'll get you some more places later.

Some of my best friends in life have been hippies, and it will be a conference of professional hipsters, so I have some idea about all that... And I can walk forever, but it looks like Rainey St is right by the convention center, so that's an easy plan. Thanks!

Rainey st is the new hip place to be. There are a lot of food trucks in the area. I do recommend if you like Korean and Mexican food try to find the Chilantro truck and get you some kimchi fries or the tacos.

Generally there are a ton of food trucks in the area. If you are in town on Sunday definitely recommend Moonshines brunch. Get there early but it's fantastic.

Also walk 6th st to "experience it" but don't stop unless you wanna relive high st before campus partners got a hold of it

Headed to Folly Beach, SC in a couple weeks for some relaxation and a little baseball. Son has a tourney in Charleston. Been to Myrtle Beach twice (youngest daughter was born there on our first trip.) and we absolutely loved it. hoping Folly Beach is even better since as far as i know it isnt as touristy as Myrtle.

Any tips to score discounted single day admission to Magic Kingdom in Orlando? Price is darn near $500 for a family of 4 (two adults, two children) for a single day.

Have checked the usual suspects online and either the discounts are minimal or the sites look sketchy as hell. Wondering if there's some sweet super-secret AMEX travel or AAA or ex-military discount somewhere I should be calling about? Maybe a DIS shareholder bonus? Anyone been since the 10% price uptick this year?

@scarletmike ?

Well its that time of year again. Our trip to Folly Beach, SC last summer was awesome. we loved our condo and it was def not as touristy as Myrtle. This year we are headed to a new spot, Pawleys Island, SC, hoping its as nice as Folly was.

Unfortunately 1-day WDW tickets are the worst possible deal and virtually impossible to get on a legit discount without some sort of corporate hookup. I would definitely advise against going with those sketchy discount brokers, since they are indeed largely sketchy. That said, I'm one of those dads who says the price is worth it if you have a family who will enjoy "the most magical place on Earth."
