BP - Terrible Twos - Discussion

Pick someone responsible, like grad, and have them be able to view each users selections. If they are confronted and it seems they are trolling, then he should have access to delete their entire top-25 submission. That would help take care of stupid voters and/or trolling outsiders.
Sounds good in theory, but there will be shitload of people voting. It would be way to time-consuming to have somebody checking everybody's vote.

Still say it would be easier to just have a total of votes tallied, and just have it do a top 25 based on the percentage of votes each team gets. Who cares if 1 or 2 people are jackasses and put Stanford at #1, it would factor itself out.

Agreed...I like the idea of doing percentages, but I also like the idea of having a separate poll with only *high football iq* respected posters voting. Ok, enough of this, we can continue at a later time...any other bright ideas?

Apparently ImageShack has code that can be integrated into vBulletin to allow visitors to a website to upload pictures. This addition might not do as much as the Galleries setup we have now, but that section isn't getting much use. A lot of people seem to be using ImageShack, though.

Following the link to the current software (Coppermine), it appears those images are hosted on the BP server, correct? While this won't be as much of an issue in just a bit, using ImageShack would eliminate that use of space altogether.

Just something to explore... Anyway, here is a link to more information.

In regards to the reputation system, how about having stats for number of times getting positive/negative rep points, in addition to the total number of rep points? I think it's a little bit more impressive to have 10 people give you a total of 25,000 rep points than to have 1 guy give you those 25,000 rep points. (Nothing against any guys who have the power to give that many rep points.)

No one can give that many rep points. osugrad21 and I are the two highest rep points guys on the site, and even our reps/dings don't give/take anywhere near that many points (I think mine is around 10,000 points per rep/ding). I also don't think it's that much more impressive for 10 relative newbies (who haven't "earned their creds" yet) to give out reps that it is for someone like grad to do so...

How about having a way to sort the recruit database by school? Perhaps you would return a page with only those committed players, and then you could sort those by school, location, etc. I just think it would be helpful to be able to look at which school has been snatching up a lot of the prospects that warranted interest on BP.

You can click on the "Commit Date" column and it will sort by other commited schools in the Prospects section (of course, the Commit section will be sorted by commit date). Granted, it's in reverse alphabetical order of school, but it's still grouped by school...

Would it be possible to open up most of the site to non-members once we get the new server? One thing is that people visit this site and have no idea that certain forums exist, such as the graphic forum, video forum, open discussion, etc. Perhaps there is a way to make them visible but not viewable until you register. That would allow us to make it a feature of being a member, yet also let casual visitors know that those features exist.

I think that's been mentioned BFS.

Once the new server is in place, the site will be "opened back up."

My bad. I wasn't sure to what extent it was being opened up again. I've been a little scarce on this site the past few weeks tho...

This has also been mentioned for big games, but why not do more cooperation with fan sites from big ten teams? It would be cool to join forces with fans from PSU, MSU, Purdue, Iowa boards... Perhaps they could come up with a writeup and perhaps score predictions from a few of their better posters... and we could do the same. Then the two writeups and scores could be posted on the front page and fuel some debate for the week leading up to the game.

It might lead to more outsiders coming in (which is a godo thing), and we seem to do a good job weeding out the flamers.

Another idea would be to designate certain newer members to scour opponent news sites & team boards (rivals, scout, others like hornfans) to bring in any interesting tidbits of info they collect. Even if it is just summarizing humorous homers, it makes BP a more fun environment. We would need to have a system for doing this however, as to avoid too much useless information being posted daily.

What about making a concerted effort to track down the main fan sites for each team? O-state.com and hornfans.com were full of great posters and much better places to visit than their scout/rival counterparts.

We could add a link/page with the main fan page for each team listed (much like when you click the colleges header on scout). We could give the list to each of those site (I bet many would be interested), and it would help generate traffic to each site and help improve the flow of information and discussion.

This could also mesh with my above suggestion to offer up the game previews from both opponents before big games (or maybe even one day, every game).

Small detail here that needs changed.....

Avatar size......20k is WAY too small. It is actually difficult to find a pic that small. Or at least a gif.
Good call... I think the sizing should stay the same but with a new server we coudl bump that up a little (at least 25-30K, that's a more realistic filesize for a good quality image at 75x75 pixels)

I think 20K is too large! It's not too difficult to get a 75x75 pixel image under 10K.
Depends on what you are using... do you have an easy time doing this without photoshop? I don't know, I don't use anything else... but in photoshop if I hit save-as it becomes a 25K image whereas save-for-web produces 5K images.
