I rule at getting threads off topic.........I even forget what this thread was about in the first place.

Oh yeah, improvements.

There is always room for improvement, always will be. I think the new server is a huge step in the right direction, alot of the little things will fall in place after that, or at least be easier to solve. I wish there was a way we could integrate the IRC chat into the site somehow. Never tried doing that before, but I think it'd be sweet........so basically by being logged into the site, you would automatically be logged into chat.

Agreed, great idea. I'm sure there is existing vbulletin software out there to allow this... perhaps we can look into it once the server is up and running (or do some research ahead of time to expedite the process if the server's initial launch falls too close to the football season).

About the ranking poll, I think that someone needs to decide "rules." Does every member get a vote? If so, how do we know everyone will be "honest?" For instance, if I decide to be an ass, I can pick UCLA #1 and make considerably less sense from that point on. Granted, I'm just one vote, but how do we know who is voting the way he truly believes, and who is just goofing off?

One way to fix it might be to pick 50, 100, 200 (or whatever) people to vote each week. These people take the polls seriously, and we can believe the results a little better. But, let's say I don't get chosen, even though I believe I can vote "honestly." I might become bitter and quit logging on. This method is very inclusive, and may create more problems than it solves.

So I guess what I'm saying is that it all depends on how "important" the results of the polls are. Afterall, it IS just a message board voting poll.

Anyway, I got back to this thread because I had another idea for the site. Actually, in all fairness, it was Yertle's idea. But I believe his computer is still FUBAR, so he may not give his idea anytime soon. Anyway, the idea is that when you donate money, you should get that same amount of money in vBucks. Do the vBucks get you anything, except bragging rights? Maybe it will help donations?

If the poll thing is done, it is my opinion that the polling shouldn't start until about October after some games have been played b/c a preseason poll would basically be people regurgitating what they read in a magazine.

Or maybe after only 3 weeks just so we have something to go on besides reputation.

Could just have it go by percentage of each team and how many votes it gets.......so that way if one jackass votes the South texas catholic school for the blind orientals at #1, then that is just 1 vote for that team, so therefore it would sorta be erased.

I dont necessarily agree with that, cause very rarely do I ever agree with even the preseason polls. Plus hell, it's only a message board, would be more for fun than anything.

I like the idea of a poll. But if we take it that far, why not take it one step further? We could have the official "BP Top 25", in which only certain people could vote, maybe only admin's and mod's, or only a select group of posters. Then we have another poll that is open to everybody, and anyone and everyone can vote.

The obvious downside to this is that on the surface, it appears to be somewhat "elitist". That's not what I want to see happen, but I would like to see the most knowledgable and honest people contribute to their own poll, so we have somewhat of a standard to adhere to in the other poll. Additionally, it gives the ignorant or passive fan a completely non-biased view of what the average football fan feels.

Maybe the best way to go about this, if others agree, is to actually set up a separate thread where posters can nominate others to be a voter in this poll. We can have a pre-determined number of votes, and the BP populace can themselves determine who gets those votes. Of course, this is my idea, so I get an automatic seat...:biggrin: No, seriously, people like osugrad21 and 3yards would be locks, and I think this is an opportunity for the extremely knowledgable to contribute to everyone else, with little to no time spent or work involved (at least, no time or work that all of us here don't enjoy anyways, and the voting itself would be take a minimal time period).

Pick someone responsible, like grad, and have them be able to view each users selections. If they are confronted and it seems they are trolling, then he should have access to delete their entire top-25 submission. That would help take care of stupid voters and/or trolling outsiders.

How about having a way to sort the recruit database by school? Perhaps you would return a page with only those committed players, and then you could sort those by school, location, etc. I just think it would be helpful to be able to look at which school has been snatching up a lot of the prospects that warranted interest on BP.
