BP should cool it on trollers

I for one have faith in the power of Shetuck to find the bad guy's identity.

Which is why Shetuck is my favorite BP poster. A personal friend as it were. Someone who knows that I like him...who would never go after me like those others. :paranoid:

Shetuck....yessireebob....that is one great friend....like family...who would never hurt his own family....or me.....who likes him. My kids do too - like him.

 Reminds me of the classic Twilight Zone epsiode about the little kid who everyone HAD to be nice to...or else...

for something completely different.

I think just a banning without any extraneous activity would serve BP's interests/reputation better in the long run.
If BP wants to be the best, they should lead the way in web etiquette.

(well....maybe just one "eat a bag of dicks" before they're gone) :tongue2:

Give me a break, this board was built on ripping people who got out of line. If people come here and troll and have their own personal info. on the web, then they have nothing to whine about and are fair game.

BP can handle itself and doesn't need sweet bbq swilling, rent-a-lawyers providing legal advice.

Of course I'm rented. You get to own them in Rhode Island?

What is the point of getting personal information about the person? Payback? Payback for talking trash? I don't think that is right at all. I believe in an eye for an eye, but these things have been moving closer and closer to excessive. Banning them and removing or splitting their comments is all that should be done.

Bullshit. If you troll on a network like Scout or Rivals, well they supply you with a list of team sites to choose from...pick and play. I can understand that as almost a part of the scheme.

However, when you come to Buckeyeplanet, register to post, verify an email address, and then smear the hard work dozens and dozens of people have created, well, I don't have much sympathy for you.

I will agree that at times the "McNeil" method has come out a bit early for my taste, but still, I don't feel bad for the trolls. They felt so good when they were anonymous and just smearing shit all over the site...they usually don't feel that gutsy when everyone knows who they are.

Dunno Jon, I see where you are coming from...but as one of the guys who pours a ton of time and effort into this place, I really don't see the "banning and splitting" as an adequate response when I've/we've done it over and over again...also, you usually don't see little Johnny Trashtalk getting this treatment...you see the unprovoked site attackers getting drilled.

People who volunteer their personal info have nobody else to blame...from wedding pics, to nipple bite pics, to bad day stories, to Facebook pages...if you post it, how can you possibly get mad when people find what YOU posted.

I was out of town for this last episode, but it certainly appears to me that the troll had numerous opportunities to bow out gracefully.

The irony here is that we're having this "gut check" because we hacked up a TSUN troll.

What's not ironic, even a little predictable, is the types of trolls we get.
  1. Type I: Trey McNeil is the prototype. His team is irrelevant, so he goes and trolls someone whose team isn't irrelevant. Our TSUN friend fits pretty well, but also fits farther down the list. The nastiest type and most deserving of the eponymous treatment.
  2. Type II: Bandwagon fan. I remember one UofF fan that didn't manage to find the site until 8 months after the game against her? team. The most obnoxious type.
  3. Type III: Drunk guy. Usually posts only during the game or immediately after. Never seen again.
  4. Type IV: Penn State guy is the prototype. Talks all kinds of shit when his team wins. Acts like they're undefeated in the history of forever. Nowhere to be seen when their team is irrelevant, which is more often than not for Penn State guy. This type is by far the most cowardly.
  5. Type V: The anti-type-IV -- Our latest TSUN has defined a new category. Only appears when his team is at its LOWEST. Instead of just tearing your team down, he talks up his team at a time when there is the least to say about it. This type truly is 8 octaves of dumbass. A symphony of stupid.
Pathetic all

But they have one thing in common

Deep down - They wish their team had half the tradition, facilities, recruiting base, coach, history and current success of The Ohio State University Football Program.

I don't feel bad for them either. As I posted later, I don't care what happens to these people. I said it seemed like my first post may have come across as standing up for a troller. It wasn't meant that way. It was just a thought I had, wondering what going down this path too quickly or often could do to OUR interests, NOT the trollers. Obviously many who actually matter feel that McNeiling is in our best interest.
