Boycott Scotts Due to Smoking Policy

or because smoking makes fat rich people fatter and richer because retards continue to smoke despite it being about as smart as sticking a fork into your eye.

Do you feel this strongly about alcohol?

Smoking is a legal activity that while increasing the chances of one developing disease like cancer and thereby killing you. Of course, owning a gun is legal too, and owning a gun also increases your chances of dying by a gunshot, and certainly increases teh chaces of you killing someone else. Drinking is a legal activity much the same.... If I considered it longer, I'm sure I could come up with more...

So I hope you take up the charge against these products as well, 27.

27 does have point, although somewhat off topic. Quitting smoking is the biggest health factor people can actually control. It kills. Period. Just because its legal, doesn't mean its a good idea or an overly bright thing to do.

I think cheeseburgers are the biggest threat to one's health. Fatty foods kill, period. You may just as well stick a fork in your eye. :)

It boils down to this. Everyone is going to die of something, whether it be from sitting on the couch with a bowl of potato chips, getting hit by a car, etc. I believe everyone has the right to smoke, drink, eat pizza, and be lazy. When a company tries to control ANY of these things then they have gone overboard and need to be reined in by state laws.

Smoking will kill you.
Drinking may kill you.
Owning a gun may kill you.

One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just don't belong.....

yeah, you're going to die sooner or later. eventually, something will kill you. It may be crossing the road, or driving to work. Smoking is something I choose to do. I work with a guy that chooses to stuff five McDonald's double cheeseburgers down every day at lunch. He washes it down with a 2 liter bottle of Mt. Dew. That will kill him...

Anybody else see this sentence in the CEO's response to Dwimmer above:

"All associates save $40 per month if they submit to a confidential health assessment and another $40 if they use “prescribed” help to become more fit. "

So basically they are trying to keep people from smoking by getting them addicted to diet pills? Seriously diet pills can be just as addictive. Something the CEO needs to be asked is what about the smokers who choose to use snuff and other smokeless tobacco products? Is his "policy" going to treat these people the same? To me it just sounds like this guy is trying to play god because he has had some recent losses in his life due to smoking.

Smoking MAY kill you. I have known many people who have smoked for 50, 60, 70 years who are still around living a good life, or who unfortunately passed away due to something else. So to say that it WILL kill is innacurate at best. There is no guarantee that it will kill you, it can kill you yes. Like the other 2 things that you included in your analogy above, those 2 things can also kill you but will they?

I haven't read this whole thread but the Longaberger company used to only hire non-smokers. When I interviewed to work at their cattle farm one summer in college, the first thing they asked me was if I used tobacco products.

They also did random urine testing to detect for tobacco products in your system. I only got tested on my next to last day working there.
