March 30, 2023: BGSU Football Head Coach Scot Loeffler inks contract extension through 2025

Bowling Green coach Scot Loeffler takes QB job with Eagles

Bowling Green coach Scot Loeffler is leaving the school after six seasons to become quarterbacks coach of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Loeffler, 50, went 27-41 at Bowling Green but led the Falcons to bowl appearances in each of the past three seasons, posting a 16-10 record in MAC play during the span.

The coaching change means Bowling Green players now have a 30-day window to enter the NCAA transfer portal. The Falcons had already lost three All-MAC performers to the portal in December in running back Terion Stewart (Virginia Tech), offensive tackle Alex Wollschlaeger (Kentucky) and linebacker Joseph Sipp Jr. (Kansas). Bowling Green also is losing record-setting tight end Harold Fannin Jr. to the NFL draft.

Athletic director Derek van der Merwe will lead the search for Loeffler's replacement. In a statement, Van der Merwe praised Loeffler for building "a very successful program in a challenging climate in collegiate sports.

"I am looking forward to this process of finding the next great leader for our program who embraces what it means to be a Falcon," Van der Merwe added.

Buckeye legend Eddie George welcomes a Harbaugh to Bowling Green

The rivalry between Michigan and Ohio State runs so deep that it almost feels unnatural to see a Wolverine and a Buckeye exchanging pleasantries. But that was the case last week as Ohio State legend Eddie George (now the head coach at Bowling Green) welcomed Jack Harbaugh to take in a Falcons practice. Although many of the Maize and Blue faithful recognize Jack as a Michigan Man, his college playing and coaching career has plenty of roots in the state of Ohio.

As a player, Jack was a halfback at Bowling Green from 1957-60. Following his playing days, he became an assistant coach at various high schools throughout Ohio before joining the staff at Bowling Green as an assistant in 1968. Given that history, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that George recently welcomed Harbaugh to campus with open arms.

Pudge The Cat has everyone purring on the Bowling Green football team

Retired NFL star and current coach Eddie George has some competition when it comes to being the most popular figure on Bowling Green's football team.

Pudge The Cat has become a social media sensation since receiver Finn Hogan put a video on TikTok that showed the feline inside the locker room at the Sebo Athletic Center. Since then, the big orange cat has racked up the shares and likes across multiple platforms and gotten shoutouts on the likes of "Good Morning America."

Pudge made his sideline debut Thursday night, complete with a cameo on ESPN, as the Falcons defeated Lafayette 26-7.

Besides the TikTok video, Pudge also has his own page on Instagram and wears his own jersey when inside the locker room. Through an NIL deal, T-shirts featuring a cartoon caricature of Pudge wearing a BG helmet are being sold.

"It's awesome to see he's taking off, great for the program and great for George because he's a great cat," said linebacker Gideon Lampron, who added that people are asking him about the kitty on campus.

Pudge did have some doubters at first, especially George, the head coach, and cornerback Jalen McClendon. George is allergic to cats and McClendon was attacked by a cat when he was 13. There have been no cat-astrophes: Both have become fans of the feline, whose breed is hypoallergenic.

"Pudge is cute. My wife loves Pudge. He's become part of the (football) family," George said. "Pudge stays out of my way, I stay out of his way and we are fine."
