Boston Red Sox (9x World Series Champions)

Ay no! Bad move. Ellsbury has such a future. Johan is past his peak. He's a great pitcher, but his best seasons were in 04 and 06. :(

No way. He's 28 and the best lefty in baseball(better than CC). Combine him with the best righty and throw in Buchholz and your pitching is set for a long time. (and Papleturd)

Pretty good trade, especially if it keeps him from the Yankees.

Who do the Sox think is a better prospect, Ellsbury or Buchholz?

A different shade of Clay
No-hit wonder Buchholz bulks up in hopes of making rotation
By Ian Browne / MLB.com

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The wiry frame is now right up there with the no-hitter when it comes to Clay Buchholz. It's just a memory. The Red Sox's top pitching prospect took the organization's mandate of adding strength to his gifted right arm during the offseason seriously. And it was a noticeably sturdier Buchholz that worked out at Boston College on Tuesday as part of the Red Sox 2008 Rookie Program, a two-week event that ends on Friday. "I know what it's going to take for me to have to stay on the team this year," said Buchholz. "A lot of hard work and dedication goes into being prepared for 162 games and that was my offseason this year, that was [what] I put all the dedication toward. I think I'm right at 191 [pounds] right now actually. It's better than the 178 I was last year."

Yep, just got home and was greeted to this news. I'm hoping they make a move for another arm before the season starts. Wakefield makes an OK #4 guy, and the rotation of Lester and Bucholtz is preety good for a #5 spot, but moving Wakefield to 3 ain't all that. Lester would probably be OK at 4 and Bucholtz will/should do fine in the 5 hole.

The quotable Papelbon:

On the Sox' opening day in Japan: "I'm not too excited about going to Japan, to be totally honest with you. I love my Japanese teammates and I love Japan -- let me say that, too. I'm not much of a traveler. I'm kind of a homebody; I like to stick to America. Hopefully, they have a McDonald's. We should be good."

On expanding his dance repertoire: "Last year after we won it, I was in a hotel room partying, and Ortiz was there trying to show me how to do the breakdance. And he fell over, and he didn?t know what he was doing. Either that or he was just too drunk. I don?t know."

On his plan to train like a starter but work as a closer: "I?m going to stick to closing, man."

On his status as World Series champion in his hometown: "Back home in Mississippi, a lot more people notice me. They give me a lot of (expletive). . . . I have to come up with something new, man. But I might come up with something new. Stay tuned."

On the Red Sox' 2008 chances: "If we're not the team to beat, I'd like to know who is."
