Boston Red Sox (9x World Series Champions)

Congrats, Pedro!
Pedroia, Braun win Rookie of Year awards

By Ben Walker, AP Baseball Writer | November 12, 2007

NEW YORK --Ryan Braun won the NL Rookie of the Year award in one of the closest votes, while Dustin Pedroia ran away with the AL honor Monday.

Braun, Milwaukee's slugging third baseman, edged Colorado shortstop Troy Tulowitzki by two points in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Pedroia, the little Boston second baseman with the big swing, easily topped Tampa Bay outfielder Delmon Young. Voting was done before Pedroia helped lead the Red Sox to the World Series title.

Boston Red Sox - Red Sox, Lowell pass deadline without deal - The Boston Globe
Market open on Lowell
Sox can't beat clock; others now free to bid

By Nick Cafardo
Globe Staff / November 13, 2007

The most lucrative/costly time of the year in baseball - free agency - got under way early this morning for 153 players, one of whom was World Series MVP Mike Lowell.

Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein met last night with Lowell's representatives, the Levinson brothers, but the talks wrapped up around 10:45 with no agreement reached. The Sox' exclusive negotiating window ended at midnight, but none of this means Lowell necessarily is leaving Boston.

Both sides left the door open, and both sides feel there is plenty of room to keep talking and working toward an agreement.
...
There were reports over the past week that the Sox had offered a "very strong" three-year deal to Lowell, which he obviously felt lacked a little muscle. The Red Sox assign a value to each player, and the value they placed on Lowell apparently is three years and no more than three years.

Red Sox to add 800 seats to Fenway

BOSTON (AP) - More fans will get to see the World Series champion Boston Red Sox play at Fenway Park next year.

The Red Sox are adding more than 800 new seats as part of improvements planned for the 2008 season. Along with increased standing room areas, Fenway's capacity will approach 37,000.

"We understand the demand for such seats. Thus, we are adding to the supply," Red Sox president Larry Lucchino said. The new seats will be added to the third level above home plate. The pavilion area will be extended down the lines.

The team also plans to install new scoreboards, new stairways and elevators and open a year-round restaurant in center field that will have a view of the ballpark.

The announcement comes the same week the team said 2008 ticket prices would increase an average of 9 percent. Prices at Fenway range from $12 for upper bleachers seats to $125 for field box seats.

"For decades, there was a presumption that Fenway Park had outlived its useful life and, sentiment aside, would have to be replaced by a modern facility in another location," Lucchino said. "We are eager to see, in 2012, this ballpark become the first ever to celebrate its 100th anniversary."

Red Sox are As Is

By Eric Wilbur, Boston.com Staff November 20, 07 10:38 AM
Now, this just isn?t like the Red Sox at all.

It?s Nov. 20 and our local baseball champs are, for all intents and purposes, finished with all major offseason agendas. With plenty of time yet left on the clock, the Red Sox have put down their No. 2 pencil, turned in their work, and face a quiet offseason from here on out, something we're not exactly used to in these parts.

Boston Red Sox - Red Sox trade rumors — the Buzz - Boston.com
Last updated: 11/29, 2:07 p.m.
Are the Sox the frontrunners?
The latest rumor involving the Red Sox and Santana is the juiciest yet. According to a report from Charlie Walters of the St. Paul Pioneer Press (who sources ?a little birdie?) on Thursday, the Sox are now the frontrunners to land Santana as part of a trade package that does not include either Jacoby Ellsbury or Clay Buchholz. According to Walters, the Red Sox would receive Santana in exchange for Coco Crisp, Jon Lester, and minor league prospects Jed Lowrie and Justin Masterson, both of who rank among Boston?s top young talent. More from Walters: ?Before a deal could be made, the Red Sox would have to have time to negotiate a contract extension with Santana, 28, who can become a free agent after next season and could have a market value as high as $150 million over six years." ESPN's Buster Olney wrote on Thursday that the Sox and Twins are working on the framework of a deal that would send Santana to Boston for Crisp, Lester, Lowrie, with Sox minor league pitcher Michael Bowden being the fourth pitcher in the deal. But Olney wrote that "the identity of the fourth player is in flux" in his blog update.

Continued...
No Buchholz, no Ellsbury. It's either too good to be true or the Twins are just that desperate.
