I'm a big fan of Aerosmith's early stuff, and some of the 80s/early 90s music they did, but Steven Tyler caught some crap for changing the end of the Star Spangled Banner at the Indianapolis 500 several years ago. The video cuts out before the booing really starts though:

This is why most rock vocalists are called vocalists, not singers. What works in a rock band doesn't necessarily translate to an a cappella version of the anthem.

First of all, I qualified my statement by saying "nearly any".

Second of all, it's that version that has pretty much spawned much of the embellishment we see today. All the wannabes think their version will be just as special or will make some kind of statement of their own.

That's BS. Other than the US, there is no better anthum than the Canadian. It is a great song and I have always liked it.
