Knight reprimanded for comment about officiating

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- Texas Tech coach Bob Knight was reprimanded by the Big 12 Conference for comments about officiating in a double-overtime loss at Oklahoma State.
After Saturday's 93-91 defeat, Knight said a call on a charge was "horrendous" and "maybe as bad a call as I've ever seen." Knight's statement violated the Big 12's principle and standards of sportsmanship, which prohibit coaches from commenting critically in public about officials, the conference said. The rule "goes for coaches, players, administrators, everyone," Big 12 spokesman Rob Carolla said Thursday. Knight had no comment on the reprimand.
Why are coaches and players being reprimanded for speaking out on LOUSY, BAD officiating? These officials should be called out. Instead of the Big 12 knocking Knight they should be looking into these officials poor game calling i.e. reviewing their game tapes. Just look at when Oden got a TF for pushing the ball away from him. How bogus was that call? Some may agree and some may not but from what I have seen this year (about 40 games or so) the officiating has been the worst I have seen in years.

I can rememberwhen they implemented the ?coaches box? but have no idea when they revoked that rule. It seems like coaches are getting further and further out onto the court without officials saying anything. I don't know maybe the rule has been revoked.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The new rule that says players must be at least one year removed from high school before entering the NBA is "the worst thing that's happened to college basketball since I've been coaching," says Texas Tech coach Bob Knight.
In the Big 12, it might be called the Kevin Durant Rule after the Longhorn freshman who has electrified the entire country and leads the conference in both scoring and rebounding. Instituted last year by the NBA, it means that super-talented players must wait at least a year rather than jumping into the pros right out of high school.
"Because now you can have a kid come to school for a year and play basketball and he doesn't even have to go to class," Knight said Monday during the Big 12 coaches call. "He certainly doesn't have to go to class the second semester. I'm not exactly positive about the first semester. But he would not have to attend a single class the second semester to play through the whole second semester of basketball.
"That, I think, has a tremendous effect on the integrity of college sports."

When the Hall of Fame coach gets win No. 900, he will join former Texas coach Jody Conradt and Tennessee's Pat Summitt as the only members of the Division I club. Knight's first shot comes Saturday at Oklahoma State.
"Oh, who cares about 900?" Knight, ornery as ever at 67, said last week after victory No. 899. That game, a 75-68 victory over UTEP, was marked by his first technical foul this season. He kicked a table after what he thought was a bad call and lost his right shoe.
Knight has been a head coach for 42 years at three Division I schools. He got his 100th victory at Army, then moved to Indiana, where his Hoosiers went 662-239 and won three national championships from 1971-2000.
His first NCAA title came in 1976 when Indiana went undefeated, a feat no team has done since. In 1984, he coached the U.S. Olympic team to a gold medal in Los Angeles.

After the game, fans chanted Knight's name as he walked off the court to a thunderous ovation.
"You folks being here, seats being full for a change, really made a difference tonight," Knight told the crowd before leaving the court.
The Aggies (15-2, 1-1) looked frazzled and out of sync most of the game. A&M went 18 of 53 (34 percent) from the field in its worst shooting performance of the season and turned the ball over a season-high 20 times.
