i hate to bring it up, but i will...

the name of the band. you know the name. was there a reason i've never heard about for naming the band as such? i always thought it was tasteless. they've been playing the songs so much on espn radio recently. i can just imagine what others are thinking about some buckeye fans naming their band like that. again, perhaps there's more to it than i know.

It was a takeoff on the old 80's punk band, The Dead Kennedys.

They put up a nice tribute to Bo on their website.

It's sad that we as buckeye fans have to remind other buckeyefans about respect and not to act like morons. It's pretty bad when TSUN is sending their police to protect their fans. This is the only part of a being a buckeye that I'm completely ashamed of. I hate having that reputation!

I respect your intent but, please, there are messages such as this on most message boards. The city officials in Texas ran a complete advertising campaign this year before we arrived. It is sad but let's just keep it in perspective.

I will never be ashamed to be a Buckeye. :osu:

Quit acting like we're some type of ogres. Those are precautionary measures. We're no different than any other big fanbase.

Fans need to be reminded to act responsibly. We have a bad reputation, and it would be nice to show the rest of the country that we act like classy fans, just like our coach preaches to his team. The team has answered, so should the fans.

Well said. I am embarassed at the foul language in the stadium. I like to think we alumni are better than that.

I agree with you all but I have heard equally bad language at the toilet bowl up north. Look how our fans and players were treated at Penn State last year. It wasn't a 100% kumbaya experience at Iowa this year either.

We, who really love this team, should stop them, who claim to be Buckeye supporters but really just come out of the woodwork looking for an excuse to get involved in crap, from hurting the image of Ohio State.

All it really takes is someone in Buckeye gear to say, "hey, let's let the Buckeyes take care of this on the field."

But, again, let's not act like Buckeye fans are the worst in the world or that other teams don't have their own. Heck, every family just about has one of their own worldwide. They may keep 'em in dark corners or pretend that they don't exist, but they have their own.

Ohio State mourns death of Bo Schembechler

Beloved Michigan coach will be honored at Ohio State/Michigan game

Bo Schembechler, one of college football's greatest coaches, will be honored with a moment of silence at Saturday's Ohio State/Michigan game.

Schembechler died Friday at age 77.

Schembechler started his coaching career at Ohio State, where he spent five seasons as an assistant to Woody Hayes. From there, he went to the University of Michigan, where he spent 21 seasons.

"Bo had great connections to Ohio State," said Archie Griffin, who was recruited by Schembechler as a high school student before coming to Ohio State, where he played for Coach Woody Hayes. "He played for Woody Hayes at Miami and later coached with Woody here. Many people have the misconception that Woody and Bo disliked each other. That couldn't be further from the truth. They were best friends and very similar to each other."

"This is an extraordinary loss for college football," said Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel. "Bo Schembechler touched the lives of many people and made the game of football better in every way. He will always be both a Buckeye and a Wolverine and our thoughts are with all who grieve his loss."

Noted Ohio State Director of Athletics Eugene Smith, "Bo touched the lives of so many and helped develop countless young men into role models and leaders. He is an icon for college athletics, not just the game of football. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family, the University of Michigan and college football fans everywhere."

the best bo woody stories are how after woody got out of coaching he used to go up and speak to the um players. i dont care what you guys say. to me that covers what this is about. ultimate respect, ultimate fight, ultimate pride, ultimate emotion...

I'm a bit late, but I just wanted to pass along my thoughts and prayers to the Schembechler family and to the MIchigan football family.

They don't make them like Woody and Bo anymore.

May Coach Bo Rest in Peace.

COLUMBUS -- Of all the sad ironies coming out of the death of Bo Schembechler on the eve of the Michigan-Ohio State game, one of the most awkward surrounds the punk rock band that cheers for OSU by poking fun of Bo and all things Michigan.

The band's name is the Dead Schembechlers. Suddenly, that seems wrong.

The four members dress like Woody Hayes but have stage names that start with Bo.

The band seems to realize that. On Friday afternoon, its spokesman, who calls himself Bo Biafra, said the Schembechlers will play as scheduled Friday night at the Michigan Hate Rally, then disband.

"This will be it for us as a group, Biafra said.

He also said the band will donate all proceeds from tonight's concert to a charity of the Schembechler family's choosing.

He expressed the band's "deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers" to the Schembechler family.

The band was planning to make Friday one of the biggest days of its career. They are scheduled to host the so-called Hate Michigan Rally at the Newport Music Hall across from the OSU campus.

Earlier Friday, the Schembechlers posted this message on their web site: "The band wishes to say, 'We are crushed to learn of the death of Bo Schembechler, OSU's most valiant foe.'"

At the music hall, they have taken down the words "Dead Schembechlers" on the marquee and substituted "God Bless Bo."

Thats why the song goes "we don't give a damn for the WHOLE state of michigan!" Just Brutal!

I was very upset to hear the news. My utmost respect goes to Coach and his family. I wish them all the best. There is a small number of people who's passing should be honored by us who love college football, Bo is one of those. RIP coach, enjoy your rest.

I am suspending the promised :scum3: for this post only. My respects go to the family.
