Bitching about the 2004 Season

I'm glad Anthony Schlegel has stepped up on the defense. From the quotes, it appears the other guys rally behind him and respect his experience. I also think Troy Smith commanded the game well Saturday. With DA's injury Schlegel is full time and should continue to motivate the defense. Hopefully Smith will get the start so we can see his leadership the other players were so enthusiastic about against a stiff defense. I think if things continue on a good note, we'll look back and be thankful Schlegel and Smith took control of the squad.

I understand that seniors should be the leaders, but we don't have them. I'm getting more and more excited about next season the way so much responsibility has fallen on these young guys. We'll probably return the most starters in the country. That is promising.

killer....killer post....you did leave out cie grant as a leader though...that kid had total respect from the team for all of his "position switching" and team first attitude...

now to your post....

respect is won by performance first....the senator will smith won respect by being a beast on the field....krenzel won respect by taking hits and making ridiculous plays in the clutch...same for jenkins....MOC won respect by making all-world plays.....step, olivea and clarke would kill to gain a few yards....their team knew this...

anyways....with 14 kids gone to the nfl...this team is taking time to find the young men who will lead on the field and then become leaders of the team....it has to be done on the field first....

at this point in the season i think jt is doing the correct thing.....trying some new guys that will force their way into leadership roles....

the moves this week are a great start....we will find out saturday for sure....

smith, pittman, johnson, rehring and most especially schlegal seemed to relish their chance to prove themselves on the field.....and join fox, hawk and nugent as leaders....

So basically....we are young and going through some growing pains.

All of the rah rah stuff is great and leadership is always key, but you can't win the Kentucky Derby with a colt.

The 'horses' that run the Derby are all Colts.

Idiot.

Ron- My boy.. They are Foals, Yearlings and then Colts.... And they are Colts until they are three year olds... which is actually the age they are when they run the Derby... unless they happen to be female... and then they are fillies... of course you can call them colts or fillies while they are foals and yearlings too...

This might help clear things up.

Have a nice day. :wink2:

For what it's worth, I have no problems with this year's leaders, save for Lydels recent folly. If those are the guys the team elects, I'm fine with it.

The other points about key positions and such, the youth of this team, dead on. I remember back when this season was gearing up, people were saying 4 losses. I find it absurd that people are having such a tough time dealing with a 3 loss season thus far. I was one of the optomists, thinking OSU would go 11-1 or the like... You don't see me yick-yacking about how the "problem" can be "fixed" There are a whole host of things that are going wrong. Leadership may or may not be one of them.

I don't know... I guess there is a line between venting and blabbing. I'm not sure you crossed over, or anything, but I get a little sick of some of the crap I hear as to why OSU is a 3 loss team. Sorry if I came across too strong.

Mr. Ed

:) A horse is a horse....of course of course
The horse was Mr. Ed. Who, BTW, convinced the Harvard college football coach to call a post pattern on the last play of a game. The long pass was completed and Harvard won the game.

Sadly, Mr. Ed is dead and can't help us.

There was that other football horse who could kick field goals, but Nuge is way better than that horse.

Did the horse in Animal Farm have a name? One of the pigs should be coach Conley.

All Tressel Team

I hear a lot of talk about this being the first all Tressel team and no Cooper recruits. It was not Tressel that got the team's recruiting classes unbalanced in numbers which leads to cyclical peaks and valleys in team performance. Blame that on Cooper. 4 years ago we sucked because we had no senior leadership becasue that senior class was small and the same thing happened last year with losing all the seniors. Tressel is trying to fix that situation and even things out so new studs are plugged in every year. Rememeber the mid 90's? Give him a chance to hire an OC and get his recruiting system in place and we will all be very happy.

It does not take that long to hire an OC, but the Buckeyes have been winning with a terrible offense. This does not seem to make JT want to change. If we lose another game I think he will come around. He has the makings of something very special in Columbus and a few years of bad O and losses can take the train right off the tracks.
