Bitching about the 2004 Season

Is this all wishful thinking of John Peterson coaching the O-line or is this something thats been talked about by the coaching staff?? I have read a few times now about this but not been able to see if its going to happen. It would be wonderful if this was a fact because for some reason Coach Bollman doesn't seem to be getting it done.

Damn, well I was hoping I just missed the coaches stating that fact. It didn't seem to be that far of a stretch due to the fact Mike Stoops hired him briefly at Arizona. Hopefully this wishful thinking will become a reality soon.
Thanks for the info Mililani

Peterson not currently coaching our OL is exactly my point...had he been coaching the OL from the time he joined the Buckeyes during the last half of spring practice, we'd see a significantly different OL right now. Maybe not a dominating OL, but one that could at least provide better pass protection and open up a few more holes for runners.

I guess that's the issue. the depth and talent needed for this line to be successful under bollman's scheme is far greater than that of a better OL coach. I honestly see no way that bollman remains the OL coach with peterson on staff next year.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Well... think of it this way.

We want to run the ball.

We have not been able to run the ball with the exception of 13.

The Hardest postions to Recruit (Project) are OL and QB.

Phase one.-You bring in an OL coach to be the Recruiting coordinator.-

Phase one pretty much illustrates that there is an acknowledgement of a problem by Tressel. (Please take note of this, I think it kind of says that the last person to be shocked by the Line's production is... Who? JT.)

What's Phase Two?

Well, Phase Two pretty much says to use the guys your Recruiting Coordinator brings in. Now will that be next Year? No one knows. Not even Tressel.. yet.

The reality is, that these are real jobs... and unless you are at Auburn, they have real evaluations.

After the season, I'm sure Gieger is going to sit down with Tressel and say, "This happened, This happened and this happened." They will compare that to the expectations they had coming into this year (Their, not ours, and it involves a lot more than wins and losses) and Gieger will probably say that he's either satisfied or not satisfied with the way things went. They'll set up expectations for next year, and then they'll talk about how those goals will be acheived.... Coaching Staff, etc.

Then, based on those Goals, both the previous years and the next years, Tressel will have to evaluate the staff and whther or not they performed the way he wants them to perform. The big question is, whether or not Bollman has already performed below expectations in the past. That's what no one knows.

(All the talent issues, and experience have to already be factored into the expectations at the beginning, and adjusted as injuries, etc. happen)

Of course, if the talent level is already evaluated as being low, the thought could be that Bollman has done everything he could. One thing that probably won't hold much water, at least in Gieger or Tressel's eyes, is whether the kids are 'coachable' or not. I don't think, "Well, I did what I could, they just didn't do it" will go very far... that's part of being a teacher. (And its not like 4 of them 'get it' and one doesn't.... )

But I have a tendency to think that once the evaluation process starts, and you see this OL getting blown up over and over again... there's going to be a problem in Mudville... and I tend to think that it probably has been a problem in the past, but that's the kind of stuff that isn't public information.. and it shouldn't be.

Well about coaching a kid up........ I don't think a many kids come straight into colllege and dominate except for MoC, Adrian Peterson, and those type. I have rarely known a true freshman offensive lineman that makes an impact. Its more so probably cuz of the physical part of it, but also its alittle bit of them not having the proper technique. Also I know a huge part of it is understanding the play book. So I know what you're saying that if we have to coach a kid up then why did we recruit him. Sometimes even the best players aren't as good as we expected you know what I mean? Anyways good posts by all.....

GO BUCKS!!

As much as people want this, I believe this will be a last resort and will probably take another year of problems to happen.

Tressel and Bollman are very close. I just don't believe Tressel will fire Bollman based on one year of bad production.

I'm not saying I wouldn't welcome the change, I just don't think it will happen. Snyder is more likely to lose his job than Bollman at this point, IMO.
Where have you been? The O-line has sucked for 3 years, and it has gotten worse every year. While I agree that Tressel probably wont fire Bollman anyway, there is no doubt that Bollman DESERVES to be fired. This is Snyders first year, I cant complain about the job he is doing, we will find out how good he is next year.

Great point. I think it is staff saying this is where it all starts on the offensive side of the ball and we need someone who knows his stuff to not only head up recruiting but to really focus on the key position of the O line.

No, I'm talking to him....slobber, yours was obviously a joke. His, well, I'm just not sure. If it was a joke, it wasn't funny. If it was an insult, then I will have to insult him back. I just don't want to if it was just a stupid joke.
