Is this all wishful thinking of John Peterson coaching the O-line or is this something thats been talked about by the coaching staff?? I have read a few times now about this but not been able to see if its going to happen. It would be wonderful if this was a fact because for some reason Coach Bollman doesn't seem to be getting it done.
Well... think of it this way.
We want to run the ball.
We have not been able to run the ball with the exception of 13.
The Hardest postions to Recruit (Project) are OL and QB.
Phase one.-You bring in an OL coach to be the Recruiting coordinator.-
Phase one pretty much illustrates that there is an acknowledgement of a problem by Tressel. (Please take note of this, I think it kind of says that the last person to be shocked by the Line's production is... Who? JT.)
What's Phase Two?
Well, Phase Two pretty much says to use the guys your Recruiting Coordinator brings in. Now will that be next Year? No one knows. Not even Tressel.. yet.
The reality is, that these are real jobs... and unless you are at Auburn, they have real evaluations.
After the season, I'm sure Gieger is going to sit down with Tressel and say, "This happened, This happened and this happened." They will compare that to the expectations they had coming into this year (Their, not ours, and it involves a lot more than wins and losses) and Gieger will probably say that he's either satisfied or not satisfied with the way things went. They'll set up expectations for next year, and then they'll talk about
how those goals will be acheived.... Coaching Staff, etc.
Then, based on those Goals, both the previous years and the next years, Tressel will have to evaluate the staff and whther or not they performed the way he wants them to perform. The big question is, whether or not Bollman has already performed below expectations in the past. That's what no one knows.
(All the talent issues, and experience have to already be factored into the expectations at the beginning, and adjusted as injuries, etc. happen)
Of course, if the talent level is already evaluated as being low, the thought could be that Bollman has done everything he could. One thing that probably won't hold much water, at least in Gieger or Tressel's eyes, is whether the kids are 'coachable' or not. I don't think, "Well, I did what I could, they just didn't do it" will go very far... that's part of being a teacher. (And its not like 4 of them 'get it' and one doesn't.... )
But I have a tendency to think that once the evaluation process starts, and you see this OL getting blown up over and over again... there's going to be a problem in Mudville... and I tend to think that it probably has been a problem in the past, but that's the kind of stuff that isn't public information.. and it shouldn't be.
