The offense and O-line are an obvious problem and I for one hope that Tressel addresses the problem in the proper way. If that means letting Bollman go, that's what needs to be done.
I just hope that Tressel can seperate his personal relationships from business. I guess that's basically my point. I don't if he can or will. Let's hope.
I posted something on another thread to the effect that I'm not totally sure that JT had his whole staff... in the best case scenario... that he wanted from the beginning... due ti the time constraints of getting the 'right people.' Anyway, someone responded.. not really contradicting, but pointeing out that Tressel went out and got 'his guys' that he felt comfortable with from YSU... Well that sort of reinforces the point, that when you don't have the time to do an exhaustive search (Tons of interviews, etc), you kind of go with guys that are known commodities... The interesting Bridge we need to cross is the transistion from replacing staff that got better jobs, to replacing staff that might not be performing at the level they need to be.
Also, as things move to the future... you have to realize that you can't always get YSU guys... and remember, the "Tressel Guys" haven't always been Tressel Guys... they were just "Guys" at some point. And You take guys like Dantonio and Snyder (almost DC at S. Carolina) and Mangino... and even Bollman... you see that Tress is used to getting guys promoted to other jobs... so he's an excellent developer of other coaching talent.
Anyway... I think Tressel has been setting things up since last year to change around his offensive staff from last year with the addition of Petersen and Hazell... (Where, by the way, is the heat on Joe Daniels?) You don't just go get another guy who was the O-Line Coach and Running Game Coordinator at a successful D-I school... and steal him form Mark Stoops in the Process and not plan to use the guy... Hazell has a heck of a diverse resume as well.
On top of all that... There is no inside Power Running Game. You know this has to be killing Tressel. There really hasn't been one with Bollman yet... (Even With 13, the kid made his own way, more or less). Considering Tressel has been published on the subject of the inside power game... he might not be very happy with the direction of his 'offense'. To be honest, I think Tressel will pull the Trigger on Bollman... Going down with the ship won't help his loyalty to the rest of the staff.
So... if you get rid of Bollman... You need an O-Line Coach and an O coordinator. What do you think he does?
I think Bollman and Daniels get Canned.
Petersen moves to O-line Coach/Running Game Coordinator
Tressel Hires a new Qb Coach/Passing Game Coordinator
Hires a new Recruting Coordinator after signing day.
Tress is the OC for a year and sees if his new QB's Coach guy works out. (I think the last move is a mistake, but I think its as close as we're going to get.)
