Bill Belichick has already apoligized for the taping of the Jets defensive signals. What penalty do you think the NFL should mete out if the allegations are true? Do You think this is as bad or equal to Vick or Bonds/
My feeling is that they should forfeit that game and Bill should receive a 3 game suspension and a fine.

I'm guessing a second, a fifth, Kraft will end up paying a fine on behalf of the franchise, and double secret probation so if they are caught again they start something more severe.

So will past tapes be scoured for more evidence of this? Or will they try to put this to bed with a punishment for the current crime?

The Patriots are one of the NFL's darlings, so my guess is they will try and shovel dirt on this as fast as possible.

Two things . 1 I beleive it was the Packers who said last year that the pats were doing this but they had no proof.
2. If Goodell wants people to believe him he better make an example of this.
IMO if he does little or nothing he could drag the Nfl down to the level of the MBA or MLB.

Too bad youtube is such low quality... or fans would be scouring patriots clips for further examples. Let's hope some bitter AFC fans dig out their old tapes.

That Mount Rushmore of coaching of the 2000's...Belichick, Weis, Crennel...well, the sculptor might want to hold off for a little while. This could end up painting that entire franchise, and those SBs, in a very bad light...not to mention the struggles of the 3 guys (at least 2) now that they are out on their own.

I am still waiting for the league to actually say something, also the mention of their radio frequency setup makes me very curious. If they are tapping into the radio helmets then that escalates the issue to the next level, but nothing has been really official yet, we've heard they have found proof of stealing signs but that's it.

Though I am not a huge fan of his articles, SI's DR. Z has an interesting read.

SI.com - Writers - Dr. Z: Patriots bring cheating in the NFL into the modern era - Thursday September 13, 2007 1:05PM

Marinelli was the defensive line coach in Tampa Bay when the Bucs beat the Patriots in the 2000 regular season opener and did a good job controlling New England's offense. After the game the Patriots' offensive coach, Charlie Weis, was overheard congratulating the Bucs' defensive coordinator, Monte Kiffin.

"We knew all your calls, and you still stopped us," Weis said. "I can't believe it."

He couldn't believe it because the Patriots had videotaped all of the defensive signals in their last preseason game, which was against the Bucs.

Players get 4 games for performance enhancing drugs (even though everyone does it, Pats fans). Four games for Coach Hoodie. Big fine for the Pats because this has apparently been an ongoing thing.

An unfortunate effect of the NFL's youtube crackdown

Forfeit the game, suspend Belichick, take away at least two of their first day picks.

Unless it's some outrageous amount, a fine wouldn't really do much. I don't think any of their 4th-7th round picks made the team this year anyway, so taking away their 5th rounder probably wouldn't do much either.
