Maybe Ransom knew he wasn't headed to Columbus all along?
Perhaps this was a case of all the experts feeding off each other based on post-visit hype, but when the dust settled the parents wanted him closer to home.

Apparently the staff was definitely told at one point that Robinson was going to OSU. No way even the Texas writers concede if this weren't the case.

Probably right after his visit. But that doesn't stop a family from sitting down and having a heart to heart about being so far away from home. Not saying that is or isn't the case, but obviously that is something that happens each and every year.

The only concern I would have is that this puts Ohio State behind the eight ball on the remaining targets. But I would hope that they've continued to recruit knowing kids change their minds. The last I heard, Evans still plans to take an OV and there are a few more quality backs who have Ohio State in their final list. No one even talks about Drennen and he's an instate kid who is one of the top APBs in the country ...

RB was never a position of need in the class. Let's be honest, people just want an elite RB commitment to put the cherry on top of this amazing offensive class. Even if Dobbins leaves early, we have healthy depth at RB, regardless if we take one this year or not.

USC makes little sense.....especially with Helton seemingly on his way out. That’s an odd destination unless the family is privy to information the general public doesn’t have....(like who the next coach likely will be).

And that’s fair. Still a weird destination for a RB that obviously has his sights set on becoming an NFL player. That isn’t the most stable environment.....he’d likely be committing to a coaching staff that won’t even be there his freshman year.

Which might be more of a positive to him than a negative ... just sayin.

Always pick the school, not the coach. USC is still a traditionally rich Blue Blood that can send you to the NFL if you have talent.

Plenty of influential west coast press to boot.

Really tough pill to swallow when you suddenly miss out on 2 RBs that were written in ink. I swear, OSU could produce 5 1st rounders in a row and it would still be like pulling teeth to get a top RB to come here.

This is especially tough considering the change to an offense that will lean solely on RBs to carry the load of the rushing attack.

I don't put much value on a guy having that coveted 5th star, especially with the way they are awarded. No doubt in my mind that Ohio State lands a stud or two at the position regardless of what happens with Robinson or Knighton.
This RB class is extremely deep and probably the deepest since the age of internet recruiting sites. None of them are sure-bet "gonna play right away and put up big yards" IMHO. Those generational talents are extremely rare.

Get the guys who WANT to be Buckeyes and keep chugging along, per usual. Ohio State isn't done producing all-conference backs and putting them into the league. Never will be.

Not sure we should hold Alford to a standard that requires he lure the top 5 star RBs from the left coast and Florida. That’s been a tough ask for every coach that has passed through the WHAC for the past 50 years.

Also don’t see how this is an indictment on failing to capitalize on Zekes success. Urban is retired, and Herman, Drayton, and Beck are all at Texas. They arguably have more claim to identifying and developing Zeke than anyone on Ryan Days staff.

Losing Bijan stings, but Ohio State will be fine. Landing a premier back this cycle was not a priority. 2021, on the other hand...

Actually, I always wanted Blake Corum.

Seriously though - I hate to give up my vision of this being the all time great offensive class at OSU. We needed Robinson and Knighton to make that happen.

But regardless of who else we land this year our current roster includes:

McCall, a RS Junior who was the #2 APB from the class of 2016 and the #44 player overall in that class.

Gill, a RS Frosh who was the #2 APB from the class of 2018 and the #30 player overall in that class.

Teague, a RS Frosh who was the number 11 RB from the 2018 class.

Plus Chambers and Crowley who are incoming 4 stars recruits.

This is anything but a cupboard is bare situation.

It's certainly not bare. Excited to see Teague in the backup roll. Just think they need they need every advantage they can get against Bama/Clemson/Georgia. RB might not be the most important or hardest position to replace, but we all know the difference an elite RB can make.
