I did not know if this should have gone in the basketball, or the football forum, so I put it in a neutral site by posting here.

The question is, which recruit was bigger for The Ohio State University, Chris Wells or Greg Oden? Both dominate their sport, and are projected to shine in their careers, but which of the two is the bigger catch

Oden. Look at the history of our basketball program and the fact we've snagged the #1 guy in the country. Remember Oden would most likely be the #1 draft in the NBA if it wasn't for the 19 year old rule. Is Wells even ready for the NFL let alone first round? No.

I voted for Wells, but am re-thinking it. tOSU football is already, of course, a perennial national power. Basketball doesn't share that history and reputation. Consequently, I think it's a bigger deal for the school and program to bring in Oden.

Oden, and it isn't even close. Wells is just the latest installment in a great line of stud running backs, enrolling at a college that may be the preseason #1 team with him expected to be a backup.

Oden is helping to revive a basketball program which has been underachieving for years (compared with its elite performances in the days of Havlicek and Lucas).
He is being called an instant All-American the minute he steps on the floor. The best recruit in 17 years. One of the best of all time.

OSU football is at the top before Wells.
OSU bball will reach the top thanks to Matta, and largely due to his biggest recruit Oden (who also led to Conley).

As far as being THEE catalyst that has the single-handed ability to turn a program around = Oden.

Overall impact...maybe Wells for the fact that we'll have him on the field for at least 3 years whereas Oden we may only have for 1.

Still I picked Oden for what he will do in one year (hopefully more!) for the b-ball Bucks.

Oden will be the jewel of the bball program for at least a year, and might single handedly bring an NC to OSU. Without him the bball program would be good, but not in the NC picture. The football program is already one of the elites in the nation and one superstar recruit isn't going to make that much of a difference. Just imagine if Lebron had gone to OSU for a year. Who would have been a bigger recruit MoC (counting his one season of work) or Lebron?

If Oden is what I hear he is, he towers above Wells on a level playing-field (which says a lot, since I've heard some good stuff about Wells). However, football is a much bigger sport for more fans, and I'd guess that Wells will be at Ohio State for a longer time than Oden will. Oden still got my vote, but it was pretty hard for me to not vote for Wells.

It all depends on how you want to classify them. I voted Oden because of incredible recruiting job it took to get him, even if it turns into only one year. Chris Wells is a great get for the football team and also a great recruiting story. In my mind getting Greg Oden for tOSU is bigger than getting Chris Wells for tOSU. Both should be stars though.

I go with Wells because he's going to be around for at least 3 years...instead of just 1 as in Oden. And above that, the football program is more important at Ohio State. Brings in more money, has a bigger fan base, is more marketable...etc. I mean, if you are asking who is the better recruit, based on just compairing them to other recruits in their class, and classes past...then it's Oden. But which is bigger for tOSU? Wells.
