Big Track commits: Jeff See and Levi Fox

Don't know how many of you follow Ohio High School track/CC much, but OSU got a commitment from the premeir mid-distance runner in the State and perhaps the whole country, Jeff See.

See first got recognition in his soph. year by setting the national sophomore mile record, running a 4:06!! His PRs are as follows: 400- 50.3, 800- 1:54 (4x800- 1:53), 1600- 4:06.81, Mile- 4:06.07, 3200- 9:31, 5k- 15:10. He has won MANY individual and team state championships. He was recently featured in SI's "Faces in the Crowd."

    Great get for OSU track!

edit: changed title to add Fox

Looks like a good pick-up, but at 50.3 in the 400 is nothing to talk about. He wouldnt of even made it to the finals in d3 Ohio track.

True, but to be able to run that and then come back in another lap at 53 is very impressive. And I'm sure you can tell by his PRs, the 400 is certainly not his forte

What is his ceiling thoug? No improvement in the mile since sophomore year? I agree the PRs look nice, but is he going to get any better? Rob Myers was running about the same thing when he was in high school - and he did pretty well in college, so we'll see.

Depends on his training regimen and coaching...he could've been getting along only on raw talent. Once he gets to Ohio State, his performance could jump significantly.

I'm pretty sure he spent most of the last track season fighting a few injuries, so he didn't get the shot at improving his mile time. I'll guarantee you, though, he'll be gunning for the 4 minute barrier this season.

yeah he got sick at the end of last year and couldn't go for a big time.

the kid's got ridiculous talent. the state mile championship his sophomore year was just one of several great races in an incredible meet. he wasn't even the favorite in that race, as he hadn't posted any great times earlier in the year. it was supposed to be a showdown of christian nichols (the kicker) vs chris kollar (a great 2 miler who would push the pace). instead see comes out of nowhere and totally blasts the last 200, destroying christian nichols (who with pr's of 4:09 and 1:51 was a fantastic talent in his own right). OSU has a very good distance coach in Robert Gary (who competed in the Athens Olympics in the steeplechase) and it will be interesting to see how the kid progresses.

50.3, that is very good speed for a high school miler, and I bet he could go faster. only 4 high schoolers in US history have ever broken the 4:00 mile, I wonder if this kid can become the 5th.

Ohio State also got a commit from Levi Fox, who is considered to be one of the top distance runners in the state along with See. Fox has personal bests of 9:18 in the 3200 and 15:22 in the 5k. He finished 2nd at state in the 2mile last year and was 2nd in CC to See. He also finished 10th at the Footlocker CC nationals. OSU's distance program has been landing a lot of bigtime guys in the last 2 years.

Jeff See ran 4:11 in the 1600 today and then followed that with a 1:54 at the Mansfield Relays

Jeff See won the mile at the Nike Outdoor National meet this past weekend. He ran a 4:04.8, which I believe is the second fastest ever run by an Ohio high-schooler. He's gonna be a great one for OSU!
