Big Ten Power Rankings

I saw that, but I also looked at how they lost. The 13 point loss to Purdue wasn't pretty but the Purdue team was finally healthy again. A 4 point loss against a good Minnesota team. A 4-point OT loss at Iowa. It's never easy to win on the road, and Iowa has played OSU, Penn State, and Minnesota very close in their games. Iowa could very easily be 5-2 instead of 2-5. It's still a bad loss for Wisky, but not a terrible loss. It's not like they lost to Indiana. (:slappy:) And a 7 point loss at Illinois. In their other homes games, Illinois beat Indiana by 31, Michigan by 15, and OSU by 18.

Wisconsin has beaten both Michigan and Penn State and I would favor them in a match-up against OSU. I don't think they are a bad team, just hit a tough part of their schedule and compounded it by losing a game they shouldn't have lost. I wouldn't be surprised to see them win 6 of their next 7 and be sitting at 9-5 here in a couple weeks.

Purdue hands Wiscy it's 5th straight loss by one point.

This is what I get for trusting in Bucky.

What's with Minnesota:huh: They really put a beating on Illinois last night. Illinois could not make a basket and I don't know if her was because of good defense or just an off night or the fact that they were playing in an old barn:!. I guess I will have to move them up a notch or two in my rankings.

The Mildcats probably will jump the Badgers in my rankings. I really would like to see them get in NIT bid. I am not looking forward to the Northwestern game because they are very dangerous especially against how we play defense.

Battle can't miss a shot and PSU upsets Sparty in East Lansing. MSU only lost by two because the Nittany Lions can not shoot free throws. Now Purdue comes into our house tied for the Big 10 lead.:) or :(

I can't figure out the B11 this season. Wiscy is a huge disappointment (to their fans, not to me); Sparty loses to Northwestern and Penn State, of people, at home. I'm on the lookout for the seven golden candlesticks at this point.

Its been a crazy 3 ball weekend. that kid Battle from PSU was hitting 3's that NBA'ers wouldn't shoot , that after the day that Roth and a couple Bucks had.
I was sayin things like "holy crap" when Roth shot.

Manny Harris getting tossed = :slappy:

Michigan State has got to be thinking "ruh roh" right now. Dropping home games to NW and PSU has helped everyone else get right back in the race. At any point in the season I'd almost rather be in 2nd or 3rd, stalking the leader...such a hard task to maintain the lead when you are at the top.

There is incredible parity in the Big Ten this season, moreso than any season in recent memory, and it's a result of a number of teams improving significantly. Some like PSU, Northwestern and Minnesota have their best team in several years. Couple that with Wisconsin having a small drop off in quality and you have Wisky being passed by a lot of other teams.

It wouldn't be so hard to come to grips with Wisky having a disappointing year if you abandon the premise that the Big Ten was the league everyone was saying they were prior to the season. There were numerous "sources" that analyzed basketball and proclaimed that the Big Ten would be a down league again and teams like Northwestern were totally dismissed - there was an actual article by Rivals guys who analyzed whether Indiana would finish last in the conference this season and some actually believed Northwestern could finish worse just because they're Northwestern and they're supposed to be bad. Everyone was saying the Big Ten would be a 4-bid league, and Wisconsin was supposed to be one of the four. We've come quite a way from that 4-bid talk, as Minnesota and Illinois have both proven obviously worthy of an NCAA tourney bid (contrary to basically everyone's preseason expectations) and Michigan, PSU and NU are all within striking distance of a bid. So the overall strength of the conference is much different than what people expected it to be.

Wisconsin isn't much worse than they were expected to be, the rest of the league (for the most part) has just caught up with them, which is a big surprise if you put a lot of stock in the preseason prognosticators, because the rest of the league wasn't supposed to be very good.
