I have DirecTV in the fall for the NFL package and I can't remember the last time the satellite went out for any reason, let alone rain.

Had DirecTV at my last house and had no problems at all.

I've had better luck with waether-caused outages since I switched to HD although they say HD is more prone to weather outages. Then again, I do have the two NORAD Missile Defense dishes needed for Hawaii due to being on the fringes of the signal footprint...

After reading the Spring Practice/Game thread, I had thought that the topics were flip-flopped and this thread might be the place to get updates on Spring Practice, but I guess I was wrong. :tongue2:

Don't hope for any better on DISH. I got BTN with the DISH Top 200 plan - but they took it off and put it on a Sports Tier here in CT. You now have to pay extra for it here - $5.99 - I think. BTW - DISH still shows it as part of the plan on their web site - so be wary when checking it out.

FWIW - DISH blamed BTN when I called to complain. :(

Yep, Dish has pulled a fast one. They put it on their basic plans but then yanked it this year and put it on the $5.99 sports tier. I thought that is what all the hubbub is about with TW? Not only that, but you can't just have the Top 100 one, you have to have the Top 100 Plus to get the BTN. That is $10 more.

My reply from BTN. Classic bait and switch. Not one time did they ever indicate that it was a free preview.

Hi JC,

As part of the agreement between the Big Ten Network and DISH Network, DISH customers across the nation had an opportunity to view BTN in its initial football and basketball seasons without paying additional subscription costs. That free preview has just ended.

BTN will now reside within America's Top 100 Plus in the eight Big Ten states. It is the package which most DISH customers have, and where most regional sports programming has aired in the past and is essentially the satellite equivalent of cable's "expanded basic" package.

If you live outside the eight Big Ten states, you will still have access to BTN through America's Top 100 Plus and the Multi-Sport Pack.

I apologize that the switch was not communicated to you. We have recently been in communication with DISH Network about the issue. For more information about the agreement and the switch, you may reach DISH Network public relations at Echostar.com.
For information on upgrading or changing your service, you may contact DISH Network customer service at 1-866-306-4611. For the fastest service please have your account information available. You may also find more details at DISH Network -- Packages Overview.

Best regards,

Big Ten Network

Dish Network Adds Big Ten Network - Big Ten Network

Looks like your beef is with Dish not BTN....here is the press release from Sept from BTN.

September 6, 2007
DISH Network?, the Leader in College Sports, Adds Big Ten Network

.........DISH Network customers nationwide who subscribe to America's Top 100 and higher will find the Big Ten Network on Channel 439. Customers throughout the nation will also have the opportunity to preview the network until early 2008. I agree that my beef is with Dish, but at no time did THEY (Dish) indicate it was a free preview. Are they going to say that BTN "told" us with that press release on their (BTN's) website?

Shitty business practice :shake:

Edit: Again, isn't this the fucking problem with Time-Warner? Isn't this what those two dipshits are fighting over? Additional-Charge sports tiers?

Again, fans get the high hard one.

It has to be a torrential downpour to knock out a DirectTv signal.
More problematic is snow sticking to your dish. That can be prevented for the most part with liberal use of silicon spray before winter.
Oh! That beautiful HD football! Never have we been so lucky.

You seemed obsessed with silicon spray......this has to be at least the 5th to 6th time you have mentioned it.

Those using satellite should put a nice coating of silicon spray on their dish before winter! It will save you at least 2 weekends of football. :tongue2:

Those are just the ones I looked for as of now.

A BTN representative emailed me personally, not a form letter. They also responded in a timely manner:

Hi JC,

We made it very clear when the agreement with DISH Network was announced that BTN would be offered to all DISH Network subscribers regardless of subscription or geographical location on a preview basis.

From a press release dated September 6th, 2007, available through various media outlets and on Big Ten Network:

"DISH Network customers nationwide who subscribe to America's Top 100 and higher will find the Big Ten Network on Channel 439. Customers throughout the nation will also have the opportunity to preview the network until early 2008. At that time, the channel will be carried on America's Top 100 Plus service within the eight states with Big Ten institutions."

You may read the release in full by following the link below.

Dish Network Adds Big Ten Network - Big Ten Network

The current placement on DISH Network is comparable to existing agreements BTN has made with television providers and the terms we are seeking in ongoing negotiations with cable providers. We would like BTN to be available on an "expanded basic" placement inside the eight Big Ten states and we are open to other placements (higher tier, sports package, etc) throughout the rest of the country.

It is not as though we are passing the blame, but as a broadcast partner it is DISH Network's responsibility to accurately communicate the terms of their services to their customers. While I understand your frustration, I believe it is misplaced. To communicate with DISH Network about the switch, please call their BTN line at 1-866-306-4611.

--Big Ten Network

I agree with them here that it's Dish. They haven't responded, by the way. I contacted Dish and EchoStar.

Pretty sure that's been the company line all along, basic package inside the 8 state b10 region.

As for beating the dead horse on satellite dishes, every year I have multiple outages with cable (both TW and now Insight), most spanning multiple hours. Going to try DTV this fall.
