that's just BS plain and simple. I have no idea who the top four will be and if one of them is Magic, who only played two years of college ball, just shows how stupid this show really was from the beginning:!

Since they say it's based just on college, it's annoying seeing Magic ahead of Lucas, who was 3-time Big Ten MVP, 2-time National POY, 2-time Final 4 MVP, and a national champion.

Because it's based on the principle of recency. Ask a lot of fans under the age of 35 who Jerry Lucas is and they won't know, whereas most fans under 35 know who Magic Johnson is.

I understand where you are coming from but I don't think the voters are under the age of 35. Then again they might in preschool.

Honestly, and I really don't think I'm being biased here, Ohio State should have marked the following:

Jesse Owens--1
Archie Griffin--2
Jerry Lucas--between 4 and 6
Jack Nicklaus--top 8

That simply would have hurt feewings all over B1G.

So we have the greatest track athlete to ever live (yes, all the respect in the world to Jim Thorpe, who I think was the greatest all around athlete, but I think Owens was better at running track specifically, given the circumstances he faced, and don't even bring that Carl Lewis shit in here), the greatest college football player in terms of 2 POY trophies that no one else has ever done, the most decorated basketball player probably ever, and the greatest golfer to ever live period...but yeah, that's clearly only good for a couple of spots in the top 10. Meanwhile, we're honoring athletes who didn't even compete in the Big Ten :roll1:

I agree, although if it's truly just college then it's OK for Jack to be lower. But if it's just college having Magic ahead of Jerry Lucas is just wrong.

I expected it to be:

1 - Owens
2 - Red Grange
3 - Archie

and I would have been OK with that.

I think Grange was named the greatest college football player of all time by E$PN...which is fine (I guess) but it's gonna burn my piss if he is named ahead of Owens.

I'd be ok with Grange>Archie. After Jack at 17, Magic ahead of Lucas and Archie at 5 though, there's no fucking way that Owens should not be #1.

And where the fuck was Dick McNutt?

Things change over time. in 1950, the AP named Jim Thorpe as the best player of the Half-Century.

And after reading Carlisle versus Army, I would agree with Thorpe over Grange myself...but it's hard to go wrong with either one.

What are the odds that one of them is Art Schlichter?
