Big Ten Champs - Let's not forget Andy

Geiger has assembled some of the most high quality coaches in the country. Foster, Tressel, and Matta are not only here to win championships, but teach their kids about life.

Just think, Geiger dealt with all the recruiting allegations before he retired AND DEALT WITH KAREN HOLBROOK BEING HIS BOSS. That deserves a slap on the back in itself.

As Andy has taken the bullet for the trangressions of tOSU athletic programs (Holy shit - free dental work :roll1: ), he should certainly be recognized for his contribution to the current success of the programs he worked so hard to build. Congrats Andy.

I've had and still have issues with Andy Geiger. But with that said....

He has an uncanny eye for coaching talent. Even O'Brien was a hell of a coach, despite his recruiting deficiencies. Kudos to AG for noticing, recruiting, and inking the talent.

Not only did he have a knack for talent, but he was also a good person. A few years ago- when my middle school was doing a fundraiser for cancer research- we traded several personal emails. To make a long story short, he came to our school with a cheerleader and Brutus to be part of our rally. The kids loved it and still talk about it today.

Btw Andy. If youre out there....... Our secretary, who had breast cancer at the time, is a survivor and doing well!

Class act in my book!

AD Smith gives credit to AG.....

Dispatch

3/10/06

Andy Geiger’s reputation has taken a beating lately because of the NCAA investigation of Ohio State’s athletics program and the lawsuit brought by former men’s basketball coach Jim O’Brien. What no one has said is that Geiger, who retired as athletics director last year, hit home runs with his last three major coaching hires: Tressel, men’s basketball coach Thad Matta and women’s basketball coach Jim Foster.

Now, someone has. When a Dispatch reporter asked current athletics director Gene Smith about the Buckeyes’ unprecedented Big Ten sweep of the football and men’s and women’s basketball titles in the same year, Smith made a point of crediting his predecessor.
"It’s a tribute to Andy," Smith said. "When people look back at Andy’s tenure, everybody is going to talk about facilities. But the reality is, one of the greatest things he did is hire these three guys."
