Big Ten Championship Game

My first thought was Fox is better then the BTN, but if they are sharing on-air "talent", I think I'll mute the TV and listen to the radio.

That was the worst thing I fear. Chris Martin announcing the Big Ten Championship game???

UNLESS

Maybe they can partner with Fox to hire a real team of announcers. This team would call the Big Ten Championship game, but also be used on BTN throughout the year for their #1 game. That's the only way this could be a win.

So am I, but there's no way they go for an outdoor CG. They wouldn't be able to sell enough corporate tickets.

I think you're right, which is a shame. I think one of the best things about Big Ten football is the cold weather environment. Off the top of my head I can't think of any Big Ten teams that play in a dome, anymore.

I think it would be neat to rotate the location between the 12 teams. But I don't see that happening either. They probably wouldn't get that many people to go see Michigan State play Wisconsin in State College, PA.

No that wouldn't generate as much money as getting cities to bid on the game each year. The Big 10 will not give the game away (rotate to the 12 schools) when they can sell it annually for millions of dollars. It's all about the money.

I like what the PAC-12 is doing - letting the team with the better record host it. Usually it would result in a bigger stadium than Chicago or Indy, and also increase the chances that a team in position for a BCS Title game would win the CCG and make the NC game.

You don't need home field advantage to increase the chance that your best team gets into the NC game, just inform the refs of who should win like the SEC does. And hell, why limit it to the CCG, do it the entire season like our friends down south as well.

The refs can help but they can't always get it done - see WVU-Pitt 2007. :wink2:

Of course, they had home field also, but that was cancelled out by having RichRod.

My thoughts exactly.

It's also one reason why I'm pulling for the resurgence of Wazzou. Pullman in late Nov-early Dec would be glorious.

The PAC-12's decision makes sense for them. They don't have as many great venues to choose from as we do. Any non-campus site is always going to be a substantial distance from at least one of the campuses, and that may hurt ticket sales.

If they somehow had a Washington vs. Colorado or Arizona game hosted somewhere like Candlestick Park, they'd be screwed.

I don't think we will ever have that problem, all our cities are generally bigger and our fan bases are spread out everywhere. The worst case scenario would be Minnesota or Northwestern vs. Purdue or Indiana (), but if that were in Indianapolis or Chicago, it's not a big deal.

I like the idea of having cities bid on it every time like the super bowl. New York or Pittsburgh or Baltimore would be good exposure if it was a year that one of the better traveling teams was in.

Yeah, that would be the ideal and fairest way to do it. However, you know a significant amount of money will change hands (i.e from Indianapolis/Lucas Oil Stadium to the Big 10) for the game. It is all about the money.

Was announced today that B1G title game would be played in Indy

can't find an article, just saw it on twitter from ESPN_BigTen

here's some quotes from Delany tweeted from ESPN_BigTen

ESPN_BigTen

Delany said there were differences in two football bids (sponsorship, etc.) but indoor-outdoor was No. 1 factor in decision.

Delany said Big Ten likely would have played Chicago championship in primetime despite policy about no November night games outside

Unanimous decision by Big Ten to have football championship in Indy from 2012-15. Basketball to rotate b/t Indy and Chicago/Hoffman Estates
