Big Ten Basketball awards

ScriptOhio;1883257; said:
There are only three awards that are important; hey, it is a team game:

1) Big Ten Conference Champion
2) Big Ten Conference Tournament Champion
3) NCAA Champion

Three updates to the rafter flags in the Schott would be great.

Re: The rest of the game was a matter of killing time until the Buckeyes could cut down the nets and raise the Big Ten trophy. They'll be the top seed in the Big Ten tournament this week in Indianapolis, and are all but assured of a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.
Lighty, who played his final home game along with Diebler and Dallas Lauderdale, said the victory was nothing more than a step toward bigger goals.
"Our first mission was a regular-season Big Ten championship. That's complete," Lighty said. "Now we'll turn our focus on a three-day tournament that we need to win and that will get us ready for the NCAA tournament. That's just step two of our three-step mission."

You and I aren't on the same page right at the moment.
at 6:15 yesterday, i might not have been on the same page with myself. that being stated, one game should not in and of itself win or lose the player of the year award. sully has had his own sub-par conference game, too. johnson has been the most consistent, so it would surprise me the least to see him selected. one thing going for him is that he's the only senior candidate among taylor, sully, and himself. i think any coaches on the fence will be swayed by that fact.

a justifiable case can be made for either sullinger, johnson, or taylor. they're all tremendous players.

I wish the coaches' ballots were disclosed (as far as POY, ROY, COY, etc.).

Thad Matta...meet Jim Tressel as far as conference awards (kiss them goodbye). But enjoy the multiple championship rings...I'm sure Tressel does.

A few random thoughts.

1. No problem whatever with JJJ as Player of the Year. Great season for the big beanpole.

2. How on earth was Sullinger not unanimous first team? Someone (both coach and media) must have been hitting some of that legal-cannibinoid stuff, or "bath salts," or both.

3. Odd that Aaron Craft was unanimous all-defensive team, and Sixth Man of the Year, yet not even honorable mention All-B1G, by the coaches.

4. I was so happy to see both Will Buford and Dave Lighty on the second team; Lighty's presence there shows recognition of his incredible value to the Buckeyes.

5. Jon Leuer was somewhat disrespected by the media, but that's OK - I bet his long and productive NBA career will provide some salve for his "wounds."

So Purdue had the Big Ten Player of the Year, the Coach of the Year, the Defensive Player of the Year, and two players who are First Team all-Big Ten (and the only other player with 2 first-teammers was 3rd-place Wisconsin). Clearly Purdue must have won the Big Ten easily this year. Wait, you mean they lost it by 2 games? No shit. Thanks for playing, Purdue, here are your consolation prizes. Voters had Purdue on a pedestal, but the trophy was in OSU's arms.
