do you think adding a team like a Nebraska or a Texas would add more national appeal to the big ten, than say a Rutgers? I read an idea on Bucknuts where someone thinks we should try to get the big three out of the big twelve and start a mega conference. I think that would definitely stop the Big Ten is weak talk blah blah blah.

It would simply start threads that say the MegaConference is so over-rated, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah ..

Be careful what you wish for.. The ACC stole the big three teams from the Big East, and we aren't talking about how great the ACC is, lately, are we?

The only team I'd like to see join the TEN is ND, and that's not gonna happen. Forget current Big12 teams, because it wont happen. (we'll never get Mizzou, and I wouldnt want the Cyclones) Hell will freeze before the TEN steals one of their top programs.

Raiding the Big East is the only realistic option, and the BE will do everything in their power to not lose their top teams. (again....LOL). Pitt seems like a logical option, but why add another doormat to the TEN? As things stand now in the BE, WV would make a fun addition to the TEN. However, I don't see them leaving their status of "big fish in little pond" and becoming "little fish in big pond" in the TEN. As thing stand in their weak conference, their BCS future is bright. (if they join the TEN...fagettaboutit) Providing the BE isn't stripped of their BCS status in the coming years, I'm sure WV is quite happy where they are now.

The Ten should maintain it's current members, and leave it at that...

my 2 cents...


Either that, or add Youngstown State to the Ten....LOL

Many Big 12 schools arent happy with the Big 12...it's not impossible to snatch one of them away, although I dont think it's likely. I'd be stoked for someone like Nebraska. A rich tradition, team on the rise, not a huge market but it's one of the few states that rivals Ohio in football-craziness.

Which schools aren't happy? Nebraska would be a quality addition to the TEN, but I don't see them ditching the Big12 anytime during my lifetime. I think adding a Nebraska would be very sweet indeed!!

First off, let me say that I am adamately (sp?) against adding another team that is not Notre Who.

What I would like to bring up that no one seems to have mentioned is that once a team joined the B10 that would help them improve. Everyone says that Rutgers (just to pick one) isn't good enough. Hell, give them a B10 schedule, some good TV times and big time revenue and they would become a much more consistent team in the future. What I'm trying to say is don't count someone out because their football team isn't good enough. IMO joining the B10 could help catapult a lot of programs into the perennial top 30. If someone put a gun to my head and made me pick one I would vote for Pitt.

I agree that Pitt is an excellent option and one that is pretty feasible.

personally, i think ISU would be a solid pick up considering iowa is already in the conference and plays them. They just seem to be the most "big 10-like" I guess.

I hate the idea of Pittsburgh. What do they bring to the Big Ten? Anything? The Big Ten somehow brings in a bunch of money every year. I don't know where they get it. I think a lot comes from bowl games. Maybe they print their own money, too, or sell drugs to kids. However they get the money, they distribute it among the member teams. Currently, they split it 11 ways. Bring in another team, and its now 12 mouths to feed. That 12th team has to bring with them more than its share in order for the 11 current teams to find it worthwhile.

A team like Texas, Nebraska, Notre Dame, maybe even Rutgers - they might bring in enough money. They've all got fan bases that are currently outside the Big Ten. But I don't see anyone leaving the Big XII anytime soon. I've heard rumors (probably on BP) that Texas isn't entirely happy with the Big XII. But they're not just going to ditch the Big XII. Notre Dame thinks they're bigger than any conference, and the BCS isn't arguing, so why should they join a conference? And the Big East isn't going to let any of their teams go AGAIN. The other three teams had to pay some penalty for leaving the Big East. I think that if the Big Ten steals a team from the Big East, an even bigger penalty will be required for that team to leave.

I don't see any team out there whose joining the Big Ten would benefit both equally. It's going to be the Big Televen for a while longer.

Pitt and Iowa State happen to be in states that already have Big Ten teams. Kind of defeats the purpose of adding another state (unless it's Notre Dame and it's national fan base) doesn't it? If we do this, it's going to be Notre Dame, which I don't want, or a team from another state. I like the idea of Nebraska joining actually. They lost their big rivalry game when they stopped playing Oklahoma every year, and their manufactured rivalry with Colorado is a joke. An Iowa-Nebraska rivalry would help both schools, IMO.

I don't think Michigan or OSU or even PSU is that interested in bringing in another powerhouse like Nebraska or Texas. Nor do I think they're interested in leaving their region. For one thing, it wasn't that many years ago that Nebraska - Oklahoma was The Game and it's still a great rivalry game. It's hard enough to win a Big 10 or Big 12 conference title and an assured BCS bid as is... in fact you'd have to have a one, two finish like OSU - Michigan last year, or a big finish like OSU in 05 to guarantee two teams in a BCS. Teams with records like Michigan's and OSU's have didn't get there by playing a national power every other week. It's also the reason the mid level schools like Minnie and Oregon schedule the way they do. They're up against it if they have to win five or six conference games to get to a bowl.
