My personal preference is U Dub versus Oregon. Mostly because when Phil Knight retires/passes on, the 'new' folk may not want to dump the kind of money that's gone into Oregon facilities/unis/etc from Nike's coffers. Without that schtick, Oregon is average. UDub on the other hand has the Seattle-Tacoma SMSA (Statistical Marketing Sample Area) at it's disposal. WST is across the mountains in never never land.

I'd like it if the B1G told Oregon that they had to choose a uniform and stick with it.

Could always make him make a trust that could support them for decades as an option for inclustion.

Also Vegas is drunk Cincinnati with higher odds then Stanford?

They're still brain damaged from the game we had with them 20 years ago

I'm pissed about that game, too. The referee took that game out of OSU's hands late.

1:36:00. Gamble caught the pass in bounds (despite defensive holding) and they called him out of bounds. It should have been First and Ten with 2:18 remaining. Pretty much game over at that point.
Instead they give Miami a chance to come back to win. And cry about it.
Also, fuck Dan Fouts. ("BAD CALL!!! BAD CALL!!!")

This unknown is probably why the big ten told them to sit tight.

Oregon is interesting. Phil has made them a personal priority but they aren’t getting anything that they couldn’t buy from Nike. They still have shareholders so they can’t throw away money at Oregon. So I think the nike thing is overblown. He did help create their image and build the brand. With a president and AD that prioritize sustaining that image and big ten money they could do it without phil. I know he donates to the school, but is he donating 50m a year?

TL;DR: ACC looked at everybody last year, didn't want to go coast to coast. GOR is pretty solid, but that doesn't mean it won't be challenged. $120 million exit fee plus loss of media rights for all sports through 2036.

Could someone explain to me why we keep conflating Oregon's Nike money with these TV media rights deals? On this board and some others I'm on there will a be a great debate about media markets, TV households etc. then someone will mention Oregon's candidacy for membership in the new Big Ten, not even look at the size of Eugene OR or even Portland OR for that matter and then say "Nike" like that is some self-evident pool of money.

How is what Oregon gets from Nike relevant to these TV rights deals/discussions at all?
Is Oregon's Nike money getting thrown in the pot, to be split 16 ways?
Is Purdue getting a 1/16 of Nike money?

I don't get it.

If true, the B1G is going to market TWICE before the ACC deal is over, and they can time their second contract to headshot the ACC when their contract is finally up. Notre Dame will have to join because Big Ten money machine goes brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Also, if this happens and works the way they intend it, I'll take back most of what I said about Kevin Warren.

I think the idea is that Nike money should keep Oregon winning, and winning drives viewers. Markets aren't unimportant, but they're less important than they were 10 years ago. If Nike money keeps eyeballs on Oregon, it keeps Oregon valuable.

In a sense Oregon is a mini notre dame. ND brings zero media market but a ton of eyeballs. Oregon brings more football eyeballs than most teams not currently in contract with the big ten or sec. What other teams up for grabs are pulling more football viewers than Oregon besides ND and Clemson? I can’t think of one. And we aren’t taking Clemson.

Side note: Phil knight donate 1 billion dollars to Oregon in the last few years. Of that $0 went to athletics. All of it went to a new research campus.

You are reading it wrong. The odds indicate that Notre Dame will be the next B1G invitee, and that Stanford will most likely not. Cincinnati is listed as a potential SEC invite, and there is less certainty on what the SEC will do. Clemson, FSU and Miami are the most likely targets.
