A POTENTIAL PAUSE ON PLAYOFF EXPANSION

College Football Playoff expansion looked like a lock in early July with the expectation the system would jump from four to 12 teams. That seems far from a certainty now.

Bowlsby, along with SEC commissioner Greg Sankey, was part of a four-person working group who helped craft the 12-eam proposal. And he seems to be hitting pause on that idea. Directing a question toward Bowlsby during his testimony Monday, Senator Lois Kolkhorst mentioned that 12 teams will soon have the potential to reach the playoff, to which Bowlsby interjected: “Maybe.”

When asked for clarification, Bowlsby said the landscape of college football has shifted in recent weeks, pointing toward the decision of Texas and Oklahoma to leave the Big 12 for the SEC.

“I was on the subcommittee to look at it,” Bowlsby said. “The tectonic plates have shifted a bit since the recommendation was made.

“That’s not a personal opinion at this point. That’s a reflection of what I’m reading in the trade publications. There’s a lot of chatter about people not being excited to move forward given what’s happened in the two weeks.”

If they go Kansas and Iowa state with no other moves Wayne Brady needs to smack a hoe.
If this is the B1G move, and the only B1G move, then I’m headed to Chicago and Kevin Warren will be seen doing the Buffalo Bill tuck dance of shame on the internet before he meets his maker.

I seriously doubt this is the only move. I suppose it is step 1…..and the ACC powers UNC and UVA are next. Then GT then the Pac12. These will all be premium academic schools with market power, bball, and enough to lure Nd.

UNC, UVA, GT, yes those will add to the academic side of things - just as KU and ISU will be an academic drag. But why? I'm sure Iowa doesn't want those to digging into what is already a tight market for fans and talent.

You don't add them alone though. Also the B1G needs to be aware they aren't a charity. It isn't their job to save the poor desperate AAU schools. Their job is to do what's best for them
Just KU from the Big12. Other big names. UNC and UVA know Clemson and FSU are going to jump to the SEC. So they want to land somewhere and their big alums would not go redneck.
ESPN may have catalyzed its own relegation to a regional football channel.
