I don't see the ND situation changing anytime soon.

The ACC is the conference of lowered expectations when it comes to this stuff... it's one of the reasons they're more stable than BXII despite having lower tv deals and patiently waiting for ESPN to give them their own network. They're all cool with it... whereas the BXII looks around at SEC, B1G, PAC and says "why not us?"

The other being that, even if ACC lost 2 members, there's plenty of candidates all along the East Coast w/o a massive revenue dropoff (CSU,Tulane), geographic over-saturation (adding more Texas schools), geographic islands (Cinci/UCF/Boise State/WVU), weird religious demands (BYU), small religious schools (SMU,TCU,Baylor), etc. -- and that's assuming the ACC wouldn't be happy staying at 12.

Yeah, the ACC has built itself a buffer. The Big XII also suffers from believing its own hype. For the last two years, ESPIN has been making the ridiculous claim that the Big XII is either the second best conference, or that it has surpassed the SEC altogether. Everyone with a brain who watches college football can clearly see that this is pretty far from true, except people in Texas and Oklahoma.

Should the Big Ten expand and add UConn?

The Big 12 could potentially try to muscle in on the Big Ten's new New York turf. Should the B1G beat them to the punch?

Conference realignment speculation is a key part of the offseason blogging playbook, but it's typically not something we need to dig into until the true doldrums around May, but the Big 12 had other ideas. Thanks to some curious and forceful statements from Oklahoma's administration, we've already written about the potential for Oklahoma to join the Big Ten someday.

Now, it seems that UConn, yes, the one all the way in Connecticut, is being talked up as a possible candidate for Big 12 expansion. Just yesterday, our friends at the excellent SB Nation Indiana blog, Crimson Quarry, wrote that the Big Ten should beat the Big 12 to the punch, and expand to add UConn themselves.

There's no indication that the Big Ten is looking to add any more teams in the near future, but perhaps our Indiana friends raise a good point. Should the Big Ten grab the Huskies? Let's take a look at what that would mean

.../snip/...

Short answer - No.
Long answer - Hell No!

Edit: Since LGHL was inspired by some Hoosier blog (Wait, there are actually Hoosier blogs?!), here' the original story:

Adding UConn to the Big Ten Would be Actually Good. Here's Why.

You can lament it as much as you'd like, but the reality is they're here to stay. They're not leaving. Rutgers will be a member of the Big Ten Conference for the long, foreseeable future.

And as months pass, it's only becoming easier for Jim Delany to justify the move that has continually left this blog and others up in arms about BUT UGH WE DON'T WANT TO SIT WITH RUTGERS AT LUNCH IT'S NOT FAIR. The B1G Eastward Money March has been successful -- it's already lining the pockets of the conference in a big way.Conference tournaments are going to be held in New York City & DC. It's happening. It's here. Delany's desire is that the Big Ten become as cityslicker as it is corn, which is fine, good, and understandable in a transitional climate of self-preservation among collegiate athletic conference. If the Big Ten stayed forever tied to its regional roots as some would like, it might open the door to programs being plucked away by more lucrative financial deals in later years. Sure, sure, that scenario is hardly likely given the Big Ten's position as a power player in the space, but still. The point is such: Moving east was fine and good and made lots of money for existing member schools. Whatever.

Problem is: The Big Ten chose the wrong dang program when heading to the New York City area in 2014.

.../snip/...

To be blunt, the article sucks. It is, however, redeemed by the comments. Three way smack talking from UConn, Rutgers & Indiana 'fans'? Yes please!

Talk about your proverbial confederacy of dunces.

Kansas writer is frosty!

Big 12 expansion talk is being twisted by Oklahoma egomaniac David Boren
The most publicly insecure and paranoid institution in college sports is at it again.

Five years after a near-death experience, leaders in and around the Big 12 are talking about conference realignment again, and the fact that they approach this round as the instigators and planners instead of the reactors and the desperate does not diminish the chance of making a wrong decision — or that one of its own is muddying the waters.

The league’s showcase event, its conference basketball tournament, is being held at Sprint Center this week. Particularly this season, as the league has been as good as any league has been in years, it is the country’s best college basketball tournament.

And even so, among the conference’s leaders, it is often serving as the background noise during another conversation about what the future will look like.

A disproportionate amount of this is the fault of Oklahoma president David Boren, an egomaniac whose platform and continued public criticisms of the league are driving the push.

Boren is such a problem that the league issued a gag order on its presidents and chancellors on the topic of possible expansion, a championship football game, and a conference television network. The league’s more considered and well-intentioned leaders have obeyed. Boren, of course, continued to talk.

Boren’s counterproductive critcisms are important context, because it means that even in a time of relative strength for the league, it is still deliberating generational changes from a position of perceived weakness.

The focus is typically on how far the Big 12 is behind the SEC and Big Ten in revenue distribution, which ignores the Big 12’s lead on the Pac-12 and ACC.

The focus is typically on the Big 12 being “psychologically disadvantaged” with 10 teams and no conference network, which ignores that other leagues have bloated past the point of diminishing returns and that the Pac-12’s network has largely been a disaster.

If the league is “psychologically disadvantaged,” as Boren famously said, it’s because he’s aired the same problems and uncertainties that exist in every league as something unique to the Big 12.

Meanwhile backup schools embrace their lot in life...

AAC commissioner expects Big 12 expansion to be settled soon

American Athletic Conference commissioner Mike Aresco believes the uncertainty surrounding another wave of conference realignment could be over in the next few months.

“I think it’s finally going to get settled at least for the short term and maybe the long term by May or early June because the Big 12 – I’ve referred to it as a Shakespearean drama, are they going to do this or do that – they will finally settle it,” Aresco told the Sentinel before the start of the league’s men’s basketball tournament in Orlando Thursday.

Big 12 officials like Oklahoma president David Boren have been publicly campaigning to add new schools to the current 10-member league after voicing concerns over possibly falling behind Power 5 brethren conferences like the SEC and Big Ten. The Big 12 is reportedly expected to discuss the situation at its spring meetings in early June.

Some of the rumored expansion candidates include several schools from the AAC like Cincinnati, Connecticut, Memphis, UCF and USF.

Aresco said no matter what happens with the Big 12, his league is better equipped to handle possible defections.

“We have 12 good schools that are nationally known and if we lose one or two we’ll figure it out,” Aresco explained. “It’s not going to be an Earth-shattering thing. It’s not going to be anything like it was three years ago.”

When did Arizona State come into play? Did I miss something? Is it just for Hockey?

Report: Notre Dame to Big Ten in 2017-2018

With rumors trending towards Arizona State ending up as a member of the Big Ten Conference, speculation increased as to which program would join the Sun Devils to give the Big Ten an even number of teams.

All indications are that that team will be Notre Dame...
