Odds are, any new members will not immediately get the full revenue split as current members (they would be phased in).

My guess is that they would, that's one of the attractions of the B1G, i.e. everybody shares equally/nobody gets anything that everybody doesn't get. Preferential treatment to Texas almost sank the Big XII a couple years ago. Didn't Nebraska get a full share the 1st year?

Sorry Rutgers that clinches it, you're out.

Don't tell me you don't like that

Disagree!!! All Pods seem to be relatively balanced, minus the new entries to the league. Nebraska and Wisconsin (and Iowa at times)... Mich, Mich St, and Northwestern (Illinois at times)... tOSU and Penn State (Purdue at times).

You are arguing against your own statements.

"They're balanced except for where they aren't"

Again Ohio State, TSUN, PSU & Nebraska are the four biggest names in the B1G. The league took specific pains to divide them up evenly for financial/marketing reasons. They are not going to change that with the addition of new members.

Since none of the new entries are CFB powerhouses (ND, Texas, etc), their records would be marginally overinflated by being in a mildly "weaker" pod and would help to energize their fanbases about the B1G because they would appear to be more competitive (compared to Rutgers/UVA/Maryland playing PSU, tOSU, Mich, Mich St, Nebraska and Wisconsin year 1... Add in Norhwestern and they could easily be 0-7).
You seem to forget that teams that the 9 teams that have been in the conference for 100+ years are not going to go against their best interests & agree to give new teams a long term competitive advantage.

Besides Rutgers is going to be perennially 8-4/9-3 in the B1G. Just ask them. :so:

No, Nebraska is getting a reduced payout until they've bought equity in the BTN.

The second biggest argument is that it will be bad for the Lacrosse team.

No, I'm not joking.

I have wet dreams thinking of B1G LAX with tOSU, UMD, UVA and UNC... I hate 'cuse with a passion of a million white hot suns but I'd even take them to help build a greater LAX base out here in the midwest.

Yup... it's all about my LAX world domination ambitions.

Have you seen the Fox/YES Network rumors?

ie That Fox is looking to bundle the BTN with YES.

News Corporation Said to Be Close to Acquiring Stake in YES Network
Yes, and that could be a game changer for the BTN/Rutgers/NY/NJ because...

how did their disagreement work out for them last time?

people confuse local followings with CFB followings, even moreso if you start tossing in Maryland PR unc basketball too. There are a ton of transplanted B1G fans in that region, and DirecTV will set the tone by having it as a base channel.
It worked out, but mostly in states where there's a huge following for the schools football program, basketball or both. Rutgers can't even sell out their stadium in their second best season ever. Will people leave their provider if they can't see the Rutgers vs. Indiana football game? There's a lot of transplants...but they've been doing without for 5 years already. All that being said, if the conference is going to add them, they obviously feel confident they can get something done in those markets. They're smarter than I am in this situation so I'll let them make the right decision.

NYC is much more of a college basketball town than college football. Perhaps the way to force the BTN down their throats is to put together the mother of all basketball conferences, which would be the case if MD, UVA and UNC all move to the Big Ten.
That's actually why I think the BTN will be okay in Maryland. Their football fans seem somewhat apathetic at the moment, but a strong basketball following and the higher number of basketball games on BTN will provide leverage there. Putting together a monster basketball conference that includes the local team could do it in NYC too.

Here's a potentially thrilling thought for season ticket holders should this deal go through: 4 conference home games against some assortment of Illinois/Indiana/Purdue/Maryland/Rutgers.

Think of it this way - Illinois won't be horrible forever and Purdue was good for nearly 15 years until they hired Danny No-Hope after Tiller retired. If they hire a good coach, Purdue has shown they can be competitive at least and that's not even bringing up the fact they nearly beat Ohio State in the 'Shoe this year.

I would imagine, however, that at least one of the 4 bigs in the conference would make an appearance at all home sites at some point this year.
