All I have to say is god Texas fans are dumb. There are quite a few of them predicting the Big10 to go to 16 with Kansas, Kansas State, Mizzou and Iowa State swap ND with Kansas state or Iowa state in a few. Only 2 of thopse are viable and I can only see us taking one or the other of Kansas and Mizzou prob Mizzou out of that choice.

One thing has become abundantly clear during the era of Conference Realignment: Basketball is Football's bitch.

All of the current talk surrounds the world of football. Every so often, basketball gets mentioned when schools like Kansas and UConn are brought up, but other wise the discussion has been almost entirely dominated by football conference realignment. When this siesmic shift ends, and the new "super conferences" are in place, virtually all of the discussion will be about football. Basketball is just along for the ride.

There was a blurb yesterday that Coach K was pleased to see 'Cuse and Pitt joining the ACC. In arguably makes the ACC the toughest basketball conference in the nation. They were already one of the top two, and stealing the Orange and Panthers from the Big East is monumental.

I am getting a good chuckle out of the situation TCU finds itself in now. They of course are scheduled to join the Big East next year. By the end of next month, there may not be a Big East.

I had the TV on in the background after Sunday Night Football. First the local news was on, and they the weekly sports show came on. They had a segment on realignment where somebody from UC's athletic department said they were confident they'd have a seat at the table once all of this shakes out, and the hosts and guests all agreed.

If TCU, makes you chuckle, UC is a laugh riot.

So then what teams that the B1G is legitimately interested in are now off the table due the ACC's move?

By adding teams, increasing their own stability and looking like they'll be one the remaining super-conferences if things get whittled down to 4, the ACC has made it less likely the B1G will be able to pluck Maryland, Ga Tech, Virginia, and North Carolina away from the ACC.

The ACC has shredded the Big East. It was just a few years ago they took away Miami, Virginia Tech, and Boston College. With Pitt and Syracuse now leaving, that means the only football teams from the Big East of 2003 that still remain are Rutgers and West Virginia, and they're both looking go go somewhere. (2003 had Temple and not UConn).

If the Pac-16 happens with Texas/Oklahoma, I think Missouri's situation is now rather interesting. They could go to either the B1G or the SEC, but the question is whether either conference will take them, or whether they'll be stuck with Kansas and Kansas State trying to salvage something with the remainder of the Big East.

Well, it's hard to argue with them about that.

It is now, for sure, but we shall see... it will be very interesting to see what SuperConferences do vis-a-vis the NCAA tournament... currently the NCAA sucks all the value from college basketball (the tourney) through itself... I can't see why the superconferences wouldn't take a hard look at opening that back up.

That, and I'm not-so-patiently waiting for PBC's one-line prediction from yesterday to come to fruition today...

My brother in law goes to UC, and ever since he started he became the stereotypical Buckeye hater. He isn't taking all of this very well. Pure comedy.

What was PBC's one line quote?

If the superconferences break away comepletely it's going to mutually destroy postseason basketball for both the superconferences and the leftovers.

Most of the TV value of the NCAA Tourney comes from that first weekend, the David vs. Goliath matchups. A new superconference-only tournament would be interesting in its own right, but it wouldn't be a cultural phenomenon like March Madness is right now. Instead of David vs. Goliath, you'd have David vs. Smaller David and Goliath vs. Bigger Goliath, both of which are probably much less interesting to most of the viewing public.

It may just happen anyway - if dismantling March Madness nets the superconferences more money than it does now I have no doubt it will come to pass. It'll be a shame for fans though.

Interesting. All I know is we better not get stuck with the dregs at the bottom of the barrel when it all shakes out.

And God Damnit, I want UCF to have a place at the table. :sob:

The B1G might as well take them to boost recruiting in FL, since it looks as though we are going to get total shit in any additions. It looks like Rutgers and Mizzou, plus maybe Kansas and another crap program.

If PBC was actually correct, which I doubt, about turning down OK, then I am just amazed at the level of incompetence.

...I'm not arguing this one way or another, I would just look for a superconference moneygrab once the dust settles... and I'm not sure they'd be wrong to do it...
