With Nebraska's resurgence to Top 10 status, and Penn State's probable replacement of JoePa, the BigTen looks to be a very strong conference at the top for years to come. There really is no need for further expansion as far as I can see.

When our contract with ABC/ESPN is up (around 2015 ?) we may have 4 perennial Top 10 teams and 4 other top 20 teams competing in the conference. That will send the rights for that package through the roof.

Demographically, the SEC has growth on its side. But economically, the expanded BigTen is still sitting on a gold mine.

Seems like a lot of people are thinking the MWC is the new place to be. I'm guessing they're betting there may be a chance of aq status, either on their own, or taking the Big East's bid...

Statistically speaking, they may earn their AQ with these additions. Imagine this conference without Utah and BYU on the outs. It's easily on par with or better than the BigEast.

Oh yeah. The Big East is in serious trouble as far as aq status in my imo...

In additition to the ~$25 million in TV money the league is getting per year for the CCG, won't they also make money on a corporate title sponsor and ticket sales?

Well, since Dr. Pepper is already sponsoring the ACC (and formerly the BigX(II)) it would only make sense that the BigTen get Red Vines to sponsor theirs.

Really great news on the UH admission into the MWC. I look forward to the line-up that they have going. The MWC going into 2012 will be formidable top-bottom.

Boise State
TCU (if they stay)
Nevada
Fresno State
San Diego State
Air Force
Hawaii

Plus teams they may add:
Houston
Montana (if they strike the right deal, doubtful)
Utah State

I like that depth for competitive teams. And UNLV and Colorado State can also be a decent bowl contender. That is probably the #5 conference, or at least right on par with the ACC.

Will not surprise me if the MWC gets aq status and the Big East loses theirs...

I'm not an expert on this stuff, but I would think any corporate sponsorship would go to Fox as part of the advertising money they bring in to cover the $25 million. I could be wrong and that the corporate sponsorship is just icing on the cake for the Big10.

From an enemy stronghold...

Dave Brandon today at the Toledo Alumni Club

...

DB sees the Big 10 at 14 teams in the next couple of years, with 16 teams being possible. Only big name teams that have a large market share / successful in sports and in academics. He did not name names, but mentioned only a few schools fit that profile.

Sweet! Now I know there is at least one vote against the Pitt's, Cinci's and WVU's of the world.

I can't believe I am about to say this, but on the whole I think M!ch!gan's new AD will be a good one for them. I hope for our sake that he doesn't realize what a bum he has Rodriguez; however I don't think Brandon is that dumb.

And hopefully folks like Smith and Brandon don't worry about those loser US Senators in Iowa who were/are trying to get involved and see what the Big 10 was considering. Iowa State should NEVER be a Big 10 member.
