From scouting around on the NW board, it appears as though PBC may have gotten a cease and desist letter. At least, that is what was hinted at in one of the threads. He has gone WAY out of his way to quantify any comment he makes now as "This is not a comment about expansion..." I think PBC had a legit scoop on what was going on behind B10 doors and they finally found the leak and/or who PBC was and put a stop to it.

I am under the impression that 'any news?' posts are welcomed and encouraged here.

I think that the lack of 'chatter' on the BigTen's part is telling. I think the cards have been very close to the vest on the BigTen side of things all along, with the exception to PBC's posts...which seem to have stopped or slowed. I believe the ball is pretty squarely in Texas' court at this point - and they've got meetings tomorrow and a legislative meeting on Wed, so news may be a bit slow until then...unless aTm officially jumps, and the (organized) chaos continues.

This whole process has been fascinating and I look forward to reading PBC's book.

Oh, and TOP

 :p

Heck yeah they are encouraged!!!

But the lack of chatter is all because we are in a holding pattern until Texas makes their decision. Texas can do anything and I wouldn't be surprised. But lets play the whatif game.

Texas goes to the Pac16 - I think this gets the Big 10 expansion train moving again. Maybe not right away (go back to that 12-18 month time table) but I think the Big 10 will make a power play to get Notre Dame and fill up to 16.

Texas goes to the Big 10 - Doubtful this will happen unless the plan from the begining was to keep this move as quiet as possible by devirting people to the Pac16 rumors so it will shock the whole system. If the slim chance of this happening, this means we are getting Notre Dame and really... after that who cares if we go to 16.

Texas keeps the Big XII alive - Most likely scenario at this time it seems. This quiets everything down, that is my assumption. Maybe the Big XII adds Utah/TCU type school, or maybe the Pac10 & Big XII both try to have title games without having 12 schools. If this happens the Big Ten will go quiet and maybe announce they are done expanding (in a few months once Notre Dame declines them again). The reason... the Big XII will fail, it is like plugging a dam with bubble gum. the Big 10 will just wait for it to burst and then once again try to get Texas. By then the Longhorn Network starts up and makes Texas next to nothing. Maybe by then Texas Tech raises their academics up to Big 10 standards. Maybe the BTN becomes so huge and popular that market size isn't an issue in future expansion. Maybe Brian Kelly fails to bring Notre Dame to BCS bowls and maybe the BCS goes away and turns into a playoff.

Not sure on exactly what grounds such an order could be granted...the more likely case is they figured out the leak (or are close to) and he does not want to get that person in trouble by suggesting he is still getting information.

He received an email from the Big Ten stating they'd seek injunction against him if he were to continue to speak about Big Ten expansion plans via Internet message boards.

PBC's also not worth nearly as much to Rivals without an inside connection... maybe he knows that...

In keeping with the overall theme of pure speculation; here is my guess at PBC and what happened to him/her/it:
  • PBC didn't have a friend on the inside - he WAS on the inside.
  • In order to determine PBC's identity, the powers-that-be had a closed door meeting to determine possible suspects; then they fed each suspect a different, false story.
  • This method was successful in determining the identity of PBC, who was told to STFU or clean out his desk.
If any of this speculation is true, then the one piece of info from PBC that is false is the last piece of info received before he went three-zero-mike (silent).

According to one thread, PBC is still offering some nuggets on their premium board.... I considered a 7 day trial membership, but decided not to pull the trigger.

I would love to see an expert in game theory lay out the equations for all of this. Maybe the math consultants from Numb3rs could do it since they probably have some spare time with the show's cancellation.

Made me laugh. I agree. Whoever wrote the Numb3rs exemplified the Peter Principle like nobody I have ever seen...
