Big East BBall Tournament 2009

With losses today, Cincinnati and Jon Thompson's guys might be dancing in the NIT. It is hard for me to believe that Georgetown's record was so poor this season. I thought they would have been much better with all the athletes that they have.

Might? There's no way they're getting an NCAA invite at 16-14, especially not with a bad loss in the first round of the conference tournament. The prevailing wisdom was they had to at least reach the Big East tournament final to get an invite to the dance.

When the school doesn't even send their band and cheerleaders... you know they don't want to be there."
That reminds me of the 1968 Ohio State team with Bill Hoskett and Dave Sorensen that beat Kentucky and went to the Final Four which was played in California. The other three teams sent to cheerleaders and pep bands and we did not send anything. The team ended up beating Houston with Elvin Hayes in the consolation game and I can remember some of the players mentioning the fact that we did not bother to send our cheerleaders. I guess some things never change:blush:

Mike Francesa spent yesterday afternoon ripping the expanded field as well, and said the following about Depaul:

"When the school doesn't even send their band and cheerleaders... you know they don't want to be there."
"When they don't even reserve hotel rooms for the players... you know they don't want to be there."
"When the team keeps its packed overnight bags stowed behind the bench... you know they don't want to be there."
"When the players have their plane tickets sticking out of their back pockets during the game... you know they don't want to be there."
I think it's far enough along in DePaul's second game where they're allowed to say Francesa doesn't know shit.

They led the majority of their second game in the tourney. Of course after I post that, Providence goes on a 15-1 run

But still.....I think it's pretty safe to say they wanted to be there, and for more than 40 minutes.

Need to get teams like that out of tournaments. It just clouds up the issue more because there is some talk that Providence could get in with 2 victories in the tournament.

Did their cheerleaders finally show up:huh:

Marquette is really putting a hurt on St. John's. The Johnnies only scored 10 points in the first half. I think the only good game today will be the Notre Lame/Mountaineers game. I would think the Irish went almost have to make it to the finals to be considered for the Dance.

I'm also a bit overwhelmed by all the Big East love. Good conference for sure, but it is 16 teams. Overall, Sagarin has ACC and Big Ten ranked ahead of them. Pomeroy has them at #3 and the Big Ten at #5.

I don't see a lot of difference between the two leagues this year.

Well, like another guy said in another thread you put enough teams into a league and the top 1/3 would probably be pretty good in comparison to another league that might only have half the number of teams that the Big East does. And 7 more teams to the Big 10 and I am sure that they will be talking, without any hesitation, of putting 6-7 teams into the NCAA tournament. I think the Big East is a little overrated due to the media bias of where they are situated along with Notre Dame.
