Gee, already making excuses for a dismal bowl season? Its still early. Its a rough year for the big ten when the excuses start flying before the bowl season begins. scUM lost to APP state, that game wont be close.

If you bother to look it up I picked the B10 to go 6-2 in that stretch. The point was simply to outline how big of a task the conference has in front of it. But then again your a real smart guy so I'm sure you already thought of that and decided to just be an ass anyway.

You don't think venue makes a difference? Why not send some of those Southern teams up to the snow belt for a bowl game? I'll bet it'd be fun watching all that southern speed slip around on the ice and snow.

MSU is playing a team 26 spots ahead of them at a neutral site.

Not really news but scUM got the worst of it. Playing a team much higher rated that is a matchup nightmare and its a home game for the Gators. OUCH.

When and if we have a decent Bowl season(I think we just might) remember this stuff. We definitly had an up hill climb.

MSU vs BC is ridiculous. BC got second in the ACC by splitting two games with VT (who is in the BCS), beating Clemson, and placing better than FSU and UVA who all got higher bowl spots. How did they get an opponent ranked this low? USF got a higher ranked opponent.

The funny thing is I wouldn't consider a MSU win an upset. BC hasn't impressed me one bit this year. You can see it all trying to come together for MSU, especially on offense.

I doubt you could pick harder matchups for UM, MSU & ILL if you tried.

UM has to face one of the greatest spread QB in history. MSU's secondary has to face a top NFL QB prospect (supposedly). ILL's spread offense faces arguably the most athletic, physical defense out there (other than perhaps OU).

Glass half full (I know I'm stretching a bit)

A healthy Henne/Hart/Manningham offense with its head out of its collective ass can do some damage to UF's defense.

MSU's offense can have a field day on BC's defense and MSU can get after the QB. Matty Ice was punked by a good FSU pass rush.

Illinois probably shot their yearly "play a perfect game and beat someone we shouldn't" wad on us but if they didn't and play to the best of their ability they can hang with USC.

If this year has taught me anything, it's to look at what can possibly happen and give it more credence than I would normally do. Anyone can beat anyone.

Here's to hoping

It'd be nice if all the negative press the Big Ten has received this year inspired a few teams to go out and make some statements, raising their level of play for the bowl games. With the match-ups we've drawn, there's real potential to have a sea change in thought toward the Big Ten if a few teams, us included, step up and come through.

My new blog posting on That State Up North deals with the topic. The article is called "Giant Sloth versus the Salad Shooter: A Divine Comedy". I always enjoy feedback if anyone wants to check it out.

Because the C****-F**-A Bowl (Peach Bowl for those of us traditionalists) wanted Clemson because Clemson is right in their backyard - lotta Clemson grads in Atlanta and nearby places like Charlotte. The Gator Bowl, long before the selection process, declared they wouldn't be taking the ACC Championship loser because that game was already in Jacksonville. (Another reason why that game oughta be in Charlotte.) So BC fell to the C****s S****s Bowl. Meanwhile I dunno how Penn State went to the Alamo Bowl and not Orlando, but the bowl people in Orlando (who run both the C*****l O** and C****s S****s Bowls) didn't want Wisconsin because Wisconsin has been to Orlando the last two years in a row now.

Illinoise doesn't deserve to be there anyway
