Wow! So LSU is falling all the way from #1 to the Cap One? Not even BCS at-large? If OSU, Oregon, and LSU are not playing in your NC game, who is?

A week ago I thought the BTN guys were nuts when they said Illinois had a chance at a BCS bowl even if tOSU went to the Rose Bowl, but it's not so far-fetched.

The fact that no conference can have 3 BCS teams hurt Wisconsin last year, but it may help Illinois get a BCS bid this year.

If neither Hawaii nor Boise State end up in the top-12 of the BCS, the BCS will be able to take 2 teams each from the SEC, Pac-10, and SEC. After taking tOSU, West Virginia (assuming they win the Big East) and the ACC CCG winner, Illinois is in a beauty contest for the 10th spot with teams like the ACC CCG loser (potentially B.C.), Virginia, Clemson, UConn, Cincy and South Florida.

Illinois needs to pull for Boise State to beat Hawaii, and for Va. Tech to win the ACC (the Va. Tech name could hurt Illinois in a beauty contest).

The BCS rules that a team needed to be in the top-14 to be eligible for the BCS were just changed to make it top-18, so Illinois will meet that requirement.

EDIT - the top-18 thing only comes into play if there are not 10 eligible teams in the top-14 - thanks, buck1973

Per the following article, you can pretty rule out Michigan for the Capitol One Bowl:

    MLive.com: Everything Michigan

IF OSU doesn't get to the title game:

    Rose: Ohio State vs USC
    Fiesta: Illinois vs Oklahoma
    Cap One: Wisconsin vs Florida
    Outback: Michigan vs Tennessee
Alamo: Penn State vs Texas Tech
    Champs Sports: Indiana vs Virginia
Insight: Michigan State vs Oklahoma State
Motor City: Purdue vs Central Michigan

I think Hawaii, Virginia, Boston College, and Oregon all lose at least one more game and Illinois squeaks into the top 14.
BB73- It is only expanded to the top 18, if there are not enough eligible teams in the top 14.

I would like to see MSU get to the Insight Bowl. Poor MSU, they get pushed into the Motor City Bowl a lot because they are in tsun and because George Perles created the Motor City Bowl and used to coach at MSU.

Indiana will be happy getting to the MC Bowl, and they should get a lot of fans there (it's only a few hours away).

I don't really care who we play in the Rose.

and I don't see us getting into the NC game.

I'd say he thinks WVU vs OU...
