Worst...
- Two of those "emo" band singers recently did a cover of Queen/Bowie's "Under Pressure" that pissed me off to no end.
- Madonna's "American Pie" cover as mentioned earlier was just awful.

Best...
- Johnny Cash's "Hurt"
- Nirvana doing "The Man Who Sold the World" and "Where Did You Sleep Last Night"
- Pearl Jam's live covers of "Baba O'Riley" and "Keep on Rockin in the Free World" are awesome.
- Sublime's version of "Scarlet Begonias"

I will say that I like Dwight Yoakam's version of the Elvis classic "Suspicious Minds".

Also, I kinda like Tainted Love by Soft Cell in the 80's. Having said that their video of the Song could go in the gayest band thread.

Best: Aerosmith's version of "Train Kept a Rollin'" (Yardbirds original)

Worst: I once heard a Judas Priest cover of "Johnny B. Goode" and it was just awful. However, their cover of "Diamonds And Rust" (Joan Baez original) is a classic.

The Joan Baez note reminds me that her cover of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" by The Band is damn good.

EDIT: Which reminds me of hippie music, which further reminds me that Tesla's cover of "Signs" by the Five Man Electrical Band is also pretty good.

I always really liked Rage Against the Machine's cover of Maggie's Farm. The whole Renegades CD is filled with pretty good covers (I think) but that one stands out to me.

And for worst I'll nominate the hack job that Limp Bizkit did to Behind Blue Eyes.
