I-70 through the rockies is nice (as long as there isn't a bad storm :( ), not sure what was so nice from Phoenix to Flag (unless you drove along the river... def. nice, but not sure I'd go with tops in the country)... phoenix to Flag via the highway is nothing but sand.

Grand Junction is also nothing but sand (although a little to the east are the rockies:) )

I'd add the "highway" around the Big Island of Hawaii... there are cliffs without rails, but the view is breath taking...

Route 1, the PCH, from Santa Monica to the Oregon-Washington border is sweet. I've done it twice and hopefully a few more times before I'm gone.

Phoenix to Flagstaff is nice but much much nicer if you exit I-17 and head over to Sedona, then take the Oak Creek Canyon route up to Flagstaff. Then once in Flag, hike to the top of Humphrey's Peak, the highest point in Az circa 12,500 feet. From the top you can see 4 National Parks.

The Columbia River Gorge drive, following the Columbia River along the Oregon-Washington border is quite nice. Numerous waterfalls.

Going to the Sun in Glacier International Peace Park is also breathtaking. Leaving there and taking Route 89 down to Yellowstone to Jackson Hole is great as well.

The 3 hour drive from Miami to Key West is pretty damn sweet. A stop at Islamorada and Marathon, for rum runners (passengers only!), makes the trek across the Seven Mile Bridge surreal.

I've gone through a lot of northern arizona and southern utah. I think it's the best part of the country. </p>

The drive in Maui from sea level to Haneakala NP is pretty amazing. supposedly it's the steepest highway in the country.

I love northern AZ. If we had stayed out there, we would have eventually ended up in the Flag area.
