Best cheesesteak in Philly?

Isn't this like asking who makes the best Soba in Osaka?
It's a lot like that. I grew up in the Philly area, and I have to say that Geno's is a good choice, but so are any one of a hundred different places. I recommend trying a few different ones. South St. is a great location to hang out, window shop (tons of funky stores), and eat cheese steaks. "Jim's" is on South Street and was considered the best place for cheese steaks for a long time. Everyone in Philly has a different opinion about the best place, but the point is: Cheese steaks in Philadelphia are sooooo much better than anywhere else in the world that it's a moot point.

Make sure to order your cheese steak with fried onions and ketchup. Mmmmmm.

Pat's and Geno's are the two that are right across the street from each other that get all of the national TV exposure (I prefer Pat's but it seems to be pretty much 50-50 among the Philly public). Geno's is also the one that stirred up a bunch of controversy recently by the owner putting up a sign that reads ""This Is AMERICA: WHEN ORDERING `SPEAK ENGLISH."'

Besides those two though, Jim's Steaks on South Street is very polpular, as is Tony Luke's on Oregon Ave. (I highly recommend the roast pork w/provolone from there).

Oh and as far as Pat's and Geno's go, make sure you know how to order it correctly or they will make you go to the back of the line.

I have been to "Philly" on a number of occasions, what a great city. I encourage you to visit the number of historical landmarks such as the Liberty Bell, The Independence Hall, and perhaps Gettysburg Battlefield and Valley Forge National Historic Park. Enjoy your trip.
