Warning: Rediculous Idle Speculation Below (Side Effect of Offseason Fever)

If you were to have a tournament of all the OSU teams of the 2000s (every previous year going only by how good they were by the end of the season, 2008 going by how good you think they are now), which team do you think would win?

Wow, what a great question, mross34!

I'd have to say the 2005 Bucks. The amazing defense combined with an offense that included 3 first round draft picks at WR and a Heisman trophy winning QB. Not too shabby.

Unless/until the 2008 team tops them...2002 from start to finish, that defense was special. The way that 2005 team was playing down the stretch was very impressive though. I think they could've beat any team in the country in January.

1. 2005- They would've been the best team in the country in almost every other season
2. 2006- Had they won it all, they'd be number 1
3. 2002- National Champs, but too many close calls to be ranked number 1 here
4. 2003- Could have gone to the big one if they had beat Michigan
5. 2007- Solid team, but i don't think they were one of the top two teams
6. 2004- Tough season, but they did beat Michigan
7. 2001- Don't know much about this team, but they beat Michigan as well
8. 2000- No comment

I won't rank 2008, but they are the most talented of all the teams, they could very well be number 1 after this season.

:slappy:

The answer is the 2002 team. Any team that wins the national Championship has to be the "Team of the Decade". They may or may not have actually been better than the 2005, 2006, and/or 2007 team; however, they "brought home the hardware".

That's kind of the reason I worded the question the way I did. Tossing a team's accomplishments aside, who would come out on top if they all had to play each other?

Sad to see how little respect the '02 team is getting.

Agreed.

They played a much tougher schedule than any other team on that list and came home as the only 14-0 team in OSU history. Also untill we see what becomes of the '08 team in the draft no other team had as much top to bottom depth of NFL talent.

More talent+better record + tougher schedule + NC = 2002 was the best team of the decade hands down.

Not totally disagreeing with you but they didn't play three #2 ranked teams.

2 of those #2 ranked teams weren't worthy of that ranking. Texas had it early in the year based on the previous years results more than anything. They turned out to be a very mediocre club.

scUM benefitted from the same weak B10 we did and went and got smoked by USC. Tough to look back with hindsight and say they were even a legit top 5 team.

2002 played 8 eventual Bowl teams iirc and the Miami team was better than anyone we have played this decade outside of maybe '05 Texas.
