Miami too was on the verge of blowing out Ohio State with a 7-0 lead and driving to the midfield.

Verge of blowing a team out is 7-0 lead with the ball? heh.... come on. Miami was not moving the ball effectively outside of their first scoring drive. It took a last second FG for the greatest offense ever to reach 17 points. The closest they were to blowing us out was... well never mind, they were never on close to blowing us out.

Technically, the thread is best team of the decade. You are treating it as best season of the decade.

Hmmm, okay. I'll bite. I'm having trouble distinguishing the difference. Some people are arguing that the 2005 team was playing the better than any other team at the end of that season. Does that make them the best team? I say no. They played flat at PSU and at home against MSU. That was the Buckeye TEAM during the 2005 SEASON. I'm struggling with what the difference is.

Yeah, I said the 7-5 2001 season was more enjoyable than the 8-4 2000 season, but that's a battle for last place. Who cares? The one that matters is the BEST, and for me, that's the 2002 team/season without a doubt. It was perfection over a brutal 14 game season. Wait wait wait... that felt good... let me say that again.... PERFECTION. ahhhhhhhh yeahhhhhh.... Nuff said. The end.

The best teams do tend to have the best seasons. I still don't understand how anyone can vote for any team but '02. Forget NFL draft picks. That '02 team blows away the others when it comes to leadership, heart, and preparation. I think that is flying over the heads of the people voting for '05 or '06. If those teams had the intangibles of the '02 team they probably would've won NC's. BUT THEY DIDN'T. They are not better teams. Just possibly better collections of talent.

2008. This will be the team that continues and surpasses what JT's teams have done so far. 2002, great team, sure, but no one thought they'd be in a BCS game, much less win the NC. Face it, they overachieved. Best football game in college football history, notwithstanding. 2008 begins the secong generation of Tressel teams. The machine will really start humming now and will continue to get better. :oh:

If people would go back and read the first post, they'd know that the question was basically asking, who was playing the best by the end of the season.

Therefore a season's accomplishments as a whole don't really mean all that much.

Well, that completely eliminates every team except 02 and 05 then.

'02 was playing well enough at the end of the season to beat the '02 Miami team.

'05 was playing well enough at the end to run up a bunch of yards, but not a bunch of points, on a very soft ND team.

Still '02 in my book.

OK I said 08, but I'm going with my hope instead of what I already know. If some people step up like I hope and think they will... I think the DL will be better this year than last.
Plus I didn't want to be Cliche and say 02. I don't know... Best D2002, Best O 2006, Best ST 2002 or 2003. But Best Team, I'm going with hope right now. They win it, I'll say I'm right, they don't I'll join the concensus and say 02

Not to get off topic too much, but I believe Miami was on the verge of at least putting away the game, driving with a 7-0 lead. Keep in mind, it was in the 1st quarter. Down 14-0 in the 1st Q would have not only been a huge emotional discouragement to the squad, but it would have led to Miami playing much more conservative on offense. Without Dorsey's turnovers, Ohio State would have been in a bad position against Miami's d, which was playing fairly well that night.
