Couple of points

1-To everyone bitching about Cincy, bandwagon fans,etc.-you sound like the people who dogged a girl for being skinny, braces etc. as a freshman in HS, and are pissed when she turns into a hottie a few years down the road and won't give you the time of day. You don't have the Bengals to kick around anymore.

2-The Bengals could still use a bigtime DT to solidify the run defense, and, more importantly, a headhunting SS to bring the pain to RBs.

3-Deltha O' Neal is playing for his job, and it shows. Keiwan Ratliff is nipping at his heels to be the starter, and Deltha is stepping up to the challenge.

4-Chris Henry is a stud. Kelley Washington can kiss his career as a Bengal goodbye.

5-The Bears front 7 is very good. Good thing for the Bengals that 3/4 of their secondary blows.

I can't make generalizations about the Bengals fans on here. But I do know that you couldn't find a Bengals post, let alone a thread, before they went on a late season surge last year. A lot of Bengal "fans" sound like the guy who broke up with the skinny girl with braces, dated a better looking girl for 12 years and then came back to her when she got hot.

Again, I'm not pointing at you specifically...I know there are true fans and bandwagon fans with every team. Just seems to be a lot of "who dey" roaches crawling out of the cracks at work and around town right now. Heck, since the Browns are headed for a losing season, I could decide to be a Patriots, Steelers, Colts or Chiefs fan and begin talking smack. That's just not me. Taking crap when my team is bad, makes it that much more enjoyable when they are good.

Just remember this, Bengal fans...You haven't had a TRUE test yet. You've looked great so far, but just like those Iowa fans that were taunting the OSU crowd after their field goal, you are still a losing franchise in the grand scheme of things. I'd get a little more than three wins (against really poor teams) into the season before I started getting too confident. Karma sucks like that...don't forget how slippery that slope is.

Since we're all Buckeye fans...I can be happy for those of you REAL fans that have endured the hardship and are finally getting some joy. That being said, I have always and will always hate the Bengals.

You've engaged in generalization about Bengal fans (bandwagon hoppers or life-long devotees) with some verve before. Why stop now?

Speaking as a Bengal fan since '81, the fact that many of us did not post volumes about the Bengals in years past though in no way indicates it was not part of our lives. Fact is you wouldn't see a post from me till last year, for that was when I became aware of this site.

Fact is you will likely see more posts in the future concerning the Bengals from the likes of me and Mothra and ... etc, etc.

That this coincides with a resurgent Bengal season is good, it gives us something better to talk about than would have been the case in seasons gone by.

In the past they would have blown that game against the Bears. And they never would have crushed Minny the way they did. It's a different Bengals team now. They may not be the best team in the league, or even in the division. But they are competitive, and that's reason enough for Bengals fans to get excited.

Exactly the type of post I've been waiting for! A fan that understands that, just because his team has really progressed, it doesn't make them Super Bowl favorites. He knows how to be excited about the teams future without getting ahead of himself and talking crap.

A little rep is in order for not saying "who dey".

I haven't seen anyone predict the team to win the superbowl. I am going to be happy to see them make the playoffs. And that is a hell of a start. Marvin Lewis has removed the cancer's from the locker room and gotten guys in there that want to win.

If you have gone to the games since PBS opened to, you would see that the police have become a lot more freindly towards the tailgates, and they actually have parking lots where thats what everyone does. before when they only had garages for the most part, it was go to the game and leave because you couldn't tailgate most places.

Who on here predicted the Bengals will win the Super Bowl?

I haven't seen it.

I didn't say anyone predicted it. It's the cocky attitude that people are coming at it with. Almost like the Bengals have done something to warrant coming out in droves and standing head-to-head, talking crap to all the other fans. I guess if I were in the same situation, I just wouldn't set my expecatations quite as high. Of course, I'm a noted pessimist.

Give me a little credit now...I've included segments of my post that you referenced that shows I've been very careful not to lump ALL Bengal fans together.

Tibs,

This thread was about jumping on the bandwagon. From my personal experiences with most Bengals fans, I have witnessed the following:

When the team fell into the pit, a LOT of Cincy fans begin to cheer for other teams. Many of them start wearing Dallas, Tampa Bay, Philly, Atlanta and Pittsburgh jerseys, hats, coats, etc. (depending on which team was good) and then would proceed to dog on me about the Browns.

...

I do understand that it's not all of the fans...which is why I was careful to say that I don't know any of you, but that I am targeting fair-weather fans.

I was talking to those of you who have been on Bengal fan boards (Even those of you getting banned  ), following the team and dying with every loss on Sundays. I feel bad that a large group of followers has put a stigma on the entire fanbase. I guess, in my own special way, I am trying to rag on all the bandwagoners and tell them that I hope Cincy once again crashes and burns. It's probably a curse the NFL gods put on them because of the fair-weather fans.

For the people that lived and breathed Bengal football in the hard times...I'm not talking about you. If there are people jumping on now and hoping to reap the rewards of a promising season...F.O.A.D.

I guess I'm one of those idealists that feel you should support a team no matter what their record is, or who the (insert position here...QB for example) is. I may complain about someone playing bad, but I don't abandon teams (like some Cincy "fans") or players (like some Browns "fans').

The only fans I have seen the Bengals fans "talking crap" to are Browns fans and they have been doing this since 1968 when the franchise was founded...nothing new there at all. As a Raiders fan, I haven't had one Bengals fan talk crap to me, though it would certainly be justified this year. Perhaps the reason is that I didn't trash the Bengals during their down years like many Browns fans did in order to make themselves feel better about their own inadequencies.

And there was one guy on here that did predict the Bengals would be playing in the Superbowl, funny thing is he's a Browns fan:

.....Who Dey think gonna beat dem Bengals? Ummm..., Steelers, Patriots, Colts, Chiefs, Eagles.... shall I go on?

Only way the Eagles beat the Bengals this year is in the Superbowl!

Oiler - I'm just razzing you some.

Fact is there are "bandwagon" Bengal fans, just as there are johnny-come-lately Brown or Steeler devotee's. S I guess we both agree on that.

On one of the primary topics of this thread - The Bengals likely record -- I concur that they have yet to play a team with good enough stuff on both sides of the ball to make a stern test. My opinion is that, shy of the Jaguars and the Steelers, the next 6 contests offer little chance of meeting a team that meets this measure.

trust me, i was born in 1979, i have seen the some of the best years of this franchise. 3-0, for bengals fans, IS A REASON TO TALK CRAP TO ALL OTHER FANS. weve been beat down for 15 straight years. ive taken all other fans abuse since i was in the fifth grade, its about time i had the right to talk back. i mean who....wh.........

WHO DEY !

Let me say this...I am a Browns fan, but I am impressed with the Bengals. Shit, I live in Ohio and have never been able to hate another Ohio team. I, for one, am glad to see them doing well and think they have just as good a shot at making the play-offs as any other team.
