With Adrian Peterson recently becoming the best running back in the NFL, halfway through his rookie season, Darren McFadden running over Steve Spurrier's Gamecocks for 323 yards, and Beanie Wells becoming an legitimate beast, I think it's fair to compare these three players. Obviously, Peterson would be an easy choice as he is already dominating the NFL, but I think that Beanie and McFadden are similar style backs who could do the same in a few years. All three of them are pretty big guys for running backs, and all three can burn you with their speed after running over you.

All fanhood loyalties aside, who would you take if you could have one of them being your RB for the next 10 years, with all of them at equal stages in their careers?

It's no disrespect to Beanie, I just think you compared him to the best two college running backs in the past 5 years.

I agree. Besides, Peterson is a year ahead of McFadden, who is a year ahead of Wells.
Give Wells another year before he might be able to compete with the other two.

Reggie Bush may have something to say about that...

While I agree that he might have something to say, I'd also say he was dead wrong. Bush was a great all purpose back, but not a true running back. I think that's starting to show in the NFL right now. A true running back doesn't have more recieving than rushing yards in his first season and carry the ball for less than 4 ypc. He was tough when he could just run by people but I just don't feel he was a running back. However he was the best APB in the past 5 years in my book.

On the topic of Beanie I agree it's unfair to compare at this point to the other two. He will get there, but right now he's still a young buck whose looking at close to 1500 yards this season in only 11 games (Counting the bowl and not the YSU one where he didn't produce or the KSU game where he ran 3 times for 14 yards.

Beanie runs for the Buckeye the other two did not. So answer is: Beanie

 bingo. That dang Peterson is going to beat my favorite player/team rookie running records, Eric Dickerson/Rams.

Beanie same home town and schools .
Mcfadden baby freak. He destroyed south carolina

PETERSON is my answer as of now but, this will be a great question in a few years. These 3 might be the best group of RB'S the NFL has had together in a long time.

I voted McFadden. Based on College, I think McFadden is more versital. He runs, throws and catches...(does he return kicks also?) I just think that he is a better athlete then Beanie and Peterson is/was in college. I know that McFadden won't QB at the next level, but as far as athletics, I would say McFadden.

If you are going off of them as of right now, of course I would definitely take AP.

But if you were to take one of them in a few years, when all three are in the NFL and into their development, who would you take?

I know Peterson has proved himself already, but I think that both McFadden and Beanie have that potential to be physically imposing runners who can break away in the secondary. Will they make the impact that Peterson has, or will they just turn out to be great college RBs, and average/good NFL players?

I just want to say that Reggie Bush was an amazing college back. Unlike in the NFL, he got it done as a running back AND all-purpose player. I think he'll get better as a pro back eventually.

Anyways..

I'd take McFadden. Beanie looks like he has the potential to be in this discussion, but I don't think he's proven to be on par with McFadden and Peterson to this point. I think as a college back, McFadden is more impressive than Peterson. McFadden is probably the most powerful running back I've seen since I started watching football, and also has much better speed than people think. He's also a great receiver and fairly accurate passer.

Can't go wrong with any of them, though! Peterson was fantastic, but I see more power in McFadden. You have to keep in mind that Arkansas throws the ball about 10 times per game, so people are loading the box. Oklahoma had more of a passing game when Peterson was their back.
