BCS torpedoed a VaTech-Oklahoma matchup

methomps

an imbecility, a stupidity without name
SI.com - Writers - Stewart Mandel: Proposed?Oklahoma-Va. Tech?Orange Bowl busted by BCS - Monday December 17, 2007 7:02PM

As it turns out, an 11th-hour agreement had been reached that would have allowed the No. 3 and 4 teams in the final BCS standings -- Virginia Tech and Oklahoma -- to meet in the Orange Bowl, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation. The conference commissioners who oversee the BCS, however, shot it down -- and several of the affected parties are still wondering why.

It's bad enough that we don't get a playoff, but now the BCS is refusing to allow the bowls to come up with the best matchups just so it can protect its legitimacy? Sad.

Well, to be honest I wondered why the Rose Bowl, who gets the first option should the pac10 or big10 champs go to the big dance, didn't chose Georgia? Not to take anything away from the Illini but what would you rather see, Illinois or Georgia versus USC?

Because the Rose Bowl could not take Georgia after the Sugar lost LSU to the championship game. Same rule as no one could take a Big Ten team from the Rose Bowl if they lost a team to the championship game.

That's not the rule.

there's no rule saying the Sugar Bowl automatically got UGA after LSU moved up.....

There is an order of precedence on who chooses when based on what teams go to the NC that rotates each year. There is no tie in to a conference other than the conference champ.

vBet for my vMortgage on that one.

I expect both of you guys to settle up quickly. :wink2:

Rule 3. C. under "Team selection procedures"

FOX Sports on MSN - BCSFootball - BCS Selection Policies and Procedures

"C. When two bowls lose host teams, then the bowl losing the number one team may not select a replacement team from the same Conference as the number two team, unless the bowl losing the number two team consents. "

Bullshit, they can take a conference #2 or an at large.
